“Always positive and with a can-do attitude are the two character traits that best describe Phoebe. Phoebe was one of the people who onboarded me in the legal team at Checkout and I was impressed by her professionalism, availability and she never got tired of my questions. As a result my integration with the team went smoothly, and efficiently. Phoebe will be greatly missed at Checkout, her efficiency and talent certainly got noticed. She would be a great asset to a legal team, requiring working under pressure, multitasking in a fast paced environment and I greatly recommend her. Finally, her French is excellent which makes her an asset in a multicultural environment.”

This taught me to work under pressure. My main duties were chairing weekly meetings of the Executive Committee and monthly meetings of the Students’ Council which dramatically improved my oral advocacy skills. This pro bono scheme is run out of City Law School as a walk-in center offering assistance for small businesses and technology start-ups. The role involves ascertaining what the client’s problem is through asking appropriate questions and reviewing the relevant documents. This experience has allowed me to improve my commercial awareness and communication skills as the advice given must be relevant but also sensitive to potential commercial pressures that the businesses may be facing.

Being a part of the SEP has allowed me to manage my own cases which is invaluable experience for a career at the Bar. After being allocated a case, I meet with the parents for a conference about the case and then gather more evidence and prepare written pleadings. Appearing in front of the Independent Review Panel on behalf of my clients has allowed me to improve my oral advocacy and witness handling skills.
