The build quality of this cable is fantastic.

Intel certification says it all. These are certified by Intel for TB, so they are TB cables. All others USB C type cables that aren't Intel certified are not TB cables... they may or may not work as expected. Cable Matters makes some of the highest quality cables for most applications, and don't skimp on materials.

I have tested these on a TB3 NVME drive and as expected the results were pretty much spot on with the previous cable I used (also certified Intel). I don't have any USB4 devices, but a fully optioned USB4 bus (with 40Gbps bandwidth and External PCI lanes) is pretty much TB3. I definitely don't have any TB5 or USB4 - 80 devices, but I trust the Intel Certification will guarantee the 120Gbps bandwidth required for the former more than any manufacturer's claim.

Cable Matters makes high quality cables and I generally trust their claims. As these are also Intel Certified, there's pretty much no doubt.

Truth be told, I'm only using this for charging purposes as of yet, but man this thing sure makes a difference. It even allows my "slower" power banks to register as charging quickly on my phone. You wouldn't think that the wire would make a big difference but it does. Less restrictive means faster charging. I would like to see if this helps the image transfer speed from my camera to my computer. If so, I'll finally be able to stop having to pull out the micro sd's to get it done.

I really like Cable Matters cables that I've gotten in the past, so I was excited to try out their latest Thunderbolt 5 cable. I was able to test the charging speeds with my GaN power bank, and it was pushing the rated amount of watts. But I don't have any Thunderbolt 5 devices to properly test out the 120Gbps bandwidth. But I have no reason to doubt from everything I've seen so far. I'll update my review once I get a chance to test that feature.

I needed a TB4 cable and saw this - not that I need it yet since I don't actually have any TB5 gear yet, but I will, my previous experiences with Cable Matters have always been good so I'm confident it will work as advertised. Having said that, as with all cables there's rarely any point in spending money on features you won't need, so unless you need TB5 today you're most likely better off waiting.

Thunderbolt 5?! I mean, right now, the newest devices only have Thunderbolt 4 (at least those that I have), so I’ll take a quality Thunderbolt 5 to future proof my max speeds any day! The quality is there—it’s the epitome of a cable for me and definitely a value!

For those of us that have fast computers and transfer a lot of data but don't like waiting, these new spec Thunderbolt cables are a must have.
This cable comes from a reputable company and the fit, finish and construction is really good.
The connectors are mounted solidly and the braided sheath on the wire is a nice feature.
I do wish it was 6' long instead of 3.3' long. That isn't a complaint but I thought I would mention it.
This is exactly as described and pictured by the vendor. No surprises.

Excellent product and easy to recommend.

This is a well built 3.3 ft USB-C cable for fast data transfer. It comes in a Cable Matters envelope. Each end of the cable has a lightening bolt and a number 5 on it. It works fine so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent next-gen cable but completely unnecessary for the vast majority of people right now
Reviewed in Canada on June 30, 2024
Size: 3.3 ftColor: BlackVine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I have several CableMatters products now, and I've been pretty happy with all of them. This particular cable is a full 1 meter Thunderbolt 5-rated flexible cable for high power delivery and data transfer between next-gen devices that use USB-C ports. *Very few* devices current are capable of using TB5's rated specifications, so this cable is absolutely overkill for most people right now and Thunderbolt 4 cables (which are still likely to exceed your gear's capabilities unless its all brand-new) are about half the price. At time of review, this one works out to ~$33 CAD with a 20% coupon applied, which is at least $10 more than most Thunderbolt 4 cables.

Unlike may other similar cables, while thick, this one is not braided and retains much more flexibility as a result. The trade-off of course is the sheath is less durable, but Thunderbolt cables are not usually something that are abused. Build quality is excellent, with extended connectors at each end that prevent bend-and-kink damage. This cable (unlike most) is also clearly marked with "TB5" at each end for its specification, so when you're digging for an appropriate cable in the mess of your drawer you will actually know what this one is. The 1 meter length is a nice compromise between a shorter patch cable and a 2m charging cable and is all most people need.

My test equipment is a Dell latitude business laptop, 100W charger, and a USB-C dock connected to a 1080p @ 144hz primary monitor and a 4k @ 60Hz secondary monitor. This system cannot effectively test up to the rated maximums of this cable. When connected between the dock and the PC, it delivered full rated monitor connectivity and the 65W power delivery the computer itself is rated for. There is no way my gear can get even close to what this cable is capable of, so those tests will have to be left to other reviewers. Overall, good quality, reasonable price for the specification, but completely overkill for most people so consider your actual needs carefully before order.

Insofern gehen meine fünf Wertungssterne in Richtung Zukunft.

As per the headline. This is not just a TB5 cable, it is THE TB5 cable. Cable Matters have beaten everyone to market with a cable supporting a standard so new that there is virtually no devices that require it yet.

As with all Cable Matter leads, this is an exceptionally well made product, thick rubber sheathing, chunky rubber plugs, proper certification. I would prefer the cable boots to be a little more substantial but no doubt a lot of research and testing has gone in to ensure durability. Regarding the sheathing, I do prefer a braided outer jacket, Cable Matters make a few TB4 leads with braided jackets and I am sure TB5 will come in the near future.

There is little testing I can do on this beyond the basics. I measured resistance at 0.083 ohm per metre, very average, no worries about overheating when passing rated current. I can’t test the TB5 features but being that this is from a great brand and that it has attained Intel certification, I have no doubt it meets its spec.

In a few years there will be a zillion cheap TB5 leads flooding Amazon but as of right now, the price on this one is very reasonable considering Cable Matters have a complete monopoly.

Thunderbolt 5!

How do you test and review a cable, then ONLY thunderbolt 5 cable there is, when there isn't any hardware this fast to test it with, LOL.

Of course I tried it, I easily got over 130W through it with 140-watt charger and an Anker 737.

And my NVME in a 3.1 GEN2 caddy, at 10 Gbit/s = 1000MB/s.

These are such tiny tasks for this cable :)

One thing immediately obvious is how thin and flexible this cable is.
It's far thinner and noodle like than my USB4 cables. It's not braided, instead it has a tough rubbery feeling cover. It's interesting, and quite nice to see. I don't really like the super thick and stiff cables.

My other cables have logos on the ends, 8K, 240w, 40GBps. I am surprised Cable Matters didn't follow this trend. I'll have to make my own labels now :)

This is a VERY high quality cable, and one of a kind at the moment! Cool.
