    Great performance, terrible display
    3 out of 5 stars
    Great performance, terrible display
Since upgrading our HVAC system to a fancy multi staged Daikin and their proprietary thermostat, we had to say goodbye to the Nest thermostat and it’s temp sensors : (I purchased 3 decently rated temp/humidity sensors to compare - this QingPing model, the Eve Weather, and the cheapest SensorPush.Price - the Eve was the most expensive at $70, the SensorPush at $50, and the QingPing at $30. Huge range here which matters a lot since we intend on buying 7 or 8 sensors.Aesthetics - the QingPing wins hands down. It’s a sleek matte white and the e-ink display is pretty incredible, easily readable even in very low light (though not backlit which is fine). The Eve display is garbage - horizontal and vertical viewing angles are terrible, and the display contrast is so bad it’s hard to read even when viewing head-on. The SensorPush has no display, which wasn’t a required feature.Compatibility - Both Eve and QingPing worked natively with HomeKit as advertised, the SensorPush has its own app and while it’s fast I wished there was at least a HOOBS plug-in to expose it to HomeKit - alas, there is not. Pretty solid deal-breaker for SensorPush.Pairing / Connection - All 3 sensors paired very quickly without issue with my iPhone 13. All 3 also updated readings (either in-app or in Apple HomeKit) within a second or two. 3 way tie.Accuracy - This was the most surprising to me - all 3 devices had temp and humidity readings very tightly clustered, it was our Daikin thermostat whose readings were a few points off from the rest. I will call this an even tie since all 3 devices were within a percentage or two of each other.Range - We have powerful wifi and multiple devices that can function as HomeKit hubs so I encountered no range issues with the QingPing even though it is only Bluetooth. The SensorPush and Eve had great wifi connections anywhere in our large home even in the basement.Overall I’m pleasantly surprised with the QingPing and it’s design, performance and especially price. Will be buying more of these to replace our Nest temp sensors. Sorry Eve!

I used this in tandem as a thermostat with a smart plug and space heater to keep my lemon tree warm during a freeze. It worked perfectly! It was easy to set up and integrate in HomeKit. It is sensitive to sunlight, meaning you'll get falsely high temps in the sun, so be mindful of placement, but it's a great device and is very reliable!.

I really want to like this station a ton... there are a few issues that i wish were smoother. The display is somewhat hard to read if you’re not straight on. I knew it wasn’t a bright LED screen, but it’s tough to read if you’re off angle or too far away. However, it’s real strength is the ability to get data in HomeKit and the Eve app. The logged data is really nice. The other quibble is Bluetooth strength. Until I get Thread hooked up, I was expecting connectivity to be ~OK from about 20 ft. Unfortunately, it’s not, though admittedly signal has to go through a 4 inch brick wall. I have to put my phone almost next to the device to get readings and data. I need Thread ASAP! I am putting one up in the attic, too, to keep tabs on stored items and high summer temps. Device is well made, attractively smallish, and hopefully durable!

UPDATE after ~9 moths of use: Once I installed a HomePod mini, this little device has been flawless! Clearly, thread is a key to make this unit connect reliably, download logged data, and provide exactly what I've needed in my two installed locations. I was a bit worried about the one in the attic (temps up to ~135°F), but it has been rock solid. My recommendation is to make sure you have a thread border router (HP Mini or AppleTV) in your system, and then enjoy!

    [updated another 6 months later]
Eve sent me a replacement unit which worked as expected….for 6 months. One day it just disappeared off my network (last reading showed 85% battery left. After some troubleshooting it turned out that I did have a bad battery so the battery level reporting on these things is not remotely accurate. I would just plan to replace the battery every 6 months when it just disappears and stops reporting data.

Eve also promised a firmware update for Eve Weather to support Matter (one of the biggest reasons I chose this device over others) a year ago and has not yet delivered.

Given the price of these things I expected a product with the basics like battery level reporting to work and software updates to be delivered in a timely manner. It’s cool that it supports Thread and is wireless, but there are some other solutions out there that can do what this does at half the price - they’re not as sleek and compact but they work.

    [updated 5 months later]
A few weeks ago the device got kind of flaky and would drop off the network and reappear. Eventually it died. I contacted support wh suggested replacing the battery. I informed them that the battery level indicator had been showing 100% but support said try it anyway. I did and it started working again. Apparently the battery indicator is not working right now and is not to be believed. Eve Engineering is aware and working on a software fix. I was a bit disappointed that the battery lasted only 5 months. We’ll see how long it NEW battery lasts. The documentation says a battery should last 1 year. So..1 star off for non working battery indicator and possibly shorter battery life than advertised.

Matter support is still planned for “later this year”

    [original review]
Although not “officially” supported I was able to get this weather station working with Home Assistant. You do need a thread border router and HomeKit to get it primed but just for initial setup.

    1) First pair with HomeKit (this is required add the device to your thread network). Press button on back and put it on your Apple TV. Follow pairing directions.
    2) Once you can see it in HomeKit and the Eve app, delete it from HomeKit. Unless you reset it, it will remain on your Thread network even if deleted from Homekit.
    3) Press (do not hold) the button on the back and then look for the Weather Station in your devices in Home Assistant (it will appear as a Homekit device). I had to put it on top of my Apple TV too.
    4) Add it via Homekit Controller add-on to Home Assistant.

    Done.

Things to keep in mind: As of right now the Eve app only works with Homekit so all the stuff you get in the app like hyperlocal forecasting and firmware updates will not work - it will have to be re-paired with Homekit for firmware updates.

Eve Weather Station runs on Thread but DOES NOT support Matter yet. Eve promised it’s coming via firmware update but as of right now it uses Homekit over Thread so Home Assistant is able to use it via Homekit add-on NOT Matter.

So yes it works, you do lose some cloud based functionality but if you want all local with no dependency on cloud and no data leakage then this will work.

Eve Weather. Nice quality build, solid and good looking. Seems to be very accurate. Does not support notifications, automations are limited to the Eve App. Integration into HomeKit is minimal, does not support widgets, provides data that is buried in the climate tab, so very difficult to quickly see the temp outside. It is easier to look out the window than it is to look in HomeKit. Eve app is a little better to see the data, but you still have to open the app. Update: after less than a week it stopped connecting to the network. Tried to reset, still will not connect. Unit functions, looks like the radio died. Returning.

So I am a bit of a home weather station geek with several different ones from different brands, Accurite, Ambient Weather, Sensor Push and even an old Oregon Scientific. Each have their merits. I got the eve to try it out and because I though it looked pretty cool. And I have not been disappointed. Really at all.

When I first got it several months ago I had an iPhone 6 running ios12 so the eve app would not run on my phone. However I had an iPad running iOS 14 so I set it up on that. It uses the home app and it's pretty cool. The software interface is intuitive and easy to use and the sensor itself is very elegantly designed. Both are easy to read and understand and best of all proved to be among the more accurate of all my devices!

So great little gadget, great gift, highly recommended for a simple remotely accesible temp/hygrometer barometric trend indicator. Go ahead and see for yourself, get one!

So great little gadget, great gift, highly recommended for a simple remotely accesible temp/hygrometer barometric trend indicator. Go ahead and see for yourself, get one!

Slow reaction to temp changes and very sensitive to placement. Very in inaccurate until I found a well shaded area that had no sunlight and wasn’t attached to anything in the sun. Software seems to work well. Not sure if it is worth the price.

I bought this because it's one of the few that supports homekit. Getting it going was a little bumpy. It didn't seem to want to connect. I'm not sure what the issue was, but I do have an Apple TV and Home Pod so maybe it was having issues figuring out how to connect. After a day or two it seems to have figured things out and now I have a reliable way to see the outside temperature. This is my second Eve product and they seem to make pretty good stuff.

3.0 out of 5 stars Barometric
Reviewed in Canada on July 11, 2024
I finally found (not cheap) a device that would monitor barometric pressure.

But when I updated the firmware to matter it lost all automation functionality, for barometric pressure. It worked once. And than everything was taken away.

    Do not update to matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente sensor

4.0 out of 5 stars Good until -18c. After that doesn’t read well
Reviewed in Canada on January 12, 2022
Good product in general. There is not indication about specification of product concerning temperature range or humidity accuracy. I asked to seller who answered me, the range was -18c to 55c.
In Canada we have often temperature below -18c. I tested these days. The sensor’s response until -21c, even though between -18 and -21 the accuracy is not good. After that it did stuck value around -21c. When temperature goes up over -20c, the sensor starts to work again. Accuracy It is good enough for my needs on automatisation routines.
It would be very appreciated if manufacture could extend range until -25c instead -18c.
It will be another coldest wave in two days. I suppose behavior will be the same , if not I will update the review.
