UPDATE DEC 2022 - -3 StarsWell, these worked for a while but before long, they started letting me down. Regular restarts became a fact of life in order to keep them working. I don't have any proof of this but based on the feedback of others, I suspect this is an Apple issue. I had multiple devices in my home that are hubs (including a HomePod), and one plug was less than 4' away from an AppleTV and would still disconnect regularly.I gave up and switched to Alexa and haven't looked back since. In short, can't recommend this because I can't recommend HomeKit.ORIGINAL REVIEWThere seem to be a lot of negative reviews on this product, and it's pretty clear the way this product is being presented is what is confusing. This is a Belkin device and, as such, WORKS PERFECTLY if you know which one to get for what you want to achieve. Also, Belkin has a long history of supporting Apple products; it appears they are pivoting Wemo to support Apple products ONLY. Allow me to clarify the differences between the versions of this device.WEMO SMART PLUG V3 & WEMO MINI SMART PLUG - both discontinued - uses wi-fi - supports Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit - requires the use of the Wemo app to set it upLong and short, if you want to use anything besides Apple, you MUST purchase this one, but it's discontinued.WEMO SMART PLUG V4 - current version - uses Thread and Bluetooth - DOES NOT use wi-fi - DOES NOT require an app to set it up, just an iPhoneThis plug is quick and easy to set up (I set up mine in under 2 minutes), but it ONLY works with iOS devices and needs an iPhone specifically to set it up using NFC. Also, I have not seen the power outage issues some others have reported. I had one today and the smart plug recovered with no intervention on my part.Important note: IT DOES NOT HAVE OR USE WI-FI. If you're trying to set up a V4 with the app and with wi-fi, it won't work because it doesn't have it.WHAT IS THREAD?Thread is an open-source wireless mesh networking protocol. It was specifically developed for managing IoT products like this smart plug. While Amazon, Google, and many others are members of the group that administers it, Apple is the first to implement it widely. The Apple HomePod and Apple TV have built-in support to act as a home hub. iPads can also be set up to be home hubs. What this means is to control one of these devices when not in range of it, you need to have a HomePod, Apple TV, or a configured iPad THAT IS in range of it. Otherwise, when your phone is in Bluetooth range of the device, it will use Bluetooth to control it.Its advantages are quick and easy connections, the ability of the devices to build their own mesh network not dependent on wi-fi, the network is self-healing, it has fast response times, it doesn't require as much power, and it has far better range. In other words, it is ideally suited for IoT devices.SUMMARYAre you an iOS user intending to use HomeKit ONLY? Then get the V4 plug; it's great. Are you not an iOS user or an iOS user who wants to use something other than HomeKit? You want the older version, but truthfully, I'd probably look at another brand as they are discontinued. It's pretty clear that Belkin has hitched Wemo's wagon to being HomeKit only as all of the latest versions of their products are HomeKit ONLY.

Works great with Apple Homekit integration, so far very stable and responsive using with Siri and home automation. The Wemo app is not great, but I'm avoiding it and using only Homekit. Currently using with a hot water kettle.

I recently purchased the Wemo smart plug with Thread capabilities, hoping to upgrade my smart home setup with enhanced connectivity and convenience. Unfortunately, my experience with this device has been nothing short of frustrating and unreliable. I strongly advise against investing in the Wemo smart plug with Thread, as it has failed to live up to its promises.

First and foremost, the most basic requirement of a smart plug is to seamlessly connect and integrate with its designated app. Shockingly, the Wemo smart plug consistently fails to establish a stable connection with the Wemo app. Despite following the setup instructions meticulously, I found myself repeatedly facing connectivity issues. Whether it was a problem with the plug's firmware or the app itself, I cannot say, but the end result was a frustrating user experience.

As if the app connectivity issues weren't bad enough, the Wemo smart plug also suffered from frequent disconnections from HomeKit. Instead of effortlessly integrating into my existing smart home ecosystem, the plug would suddenly lose connection, leaving me with no choice but to reset it multiple times. This not only disrupted the automation and control I expected but also defeated the purpose of having a smart plug altogether.

Moreover, the main reason I opted for the Wemo smart plug with Thread capabilities was the promise of improved connectivity and range. Regrettably, the reality fell far short of expectations. The Thread feature, which was supposed to provide a reliable and efficient network, did not deliver as advertised. Instead, I encountered the same connectivity issues and unreliability that plagued the plug's basic functionality.

Overall, my experience with the Wemo smart plug with Thread has been nothing but disappointing. Its inability to connect to the Wemo app, frequent disconnections from HomeKit, and the underwhelming performance of Thread capabilities make it an unreliable choice for anyone seeking to enhance their smart home. I urge potential buyers to explore alternative options from more reputable brands, as the Wemo smart plug with Thread has proven to be an investment not worth making.

So when I was first looking at buying these plugs they were $25 a piece, Instead I got returned ones from $12 a piece. I ordered 4 of them and they all work amazingly. I have no idea why these were returned. They do only work with apple devices so that could be the reason but still they are clearly branded as Apple Homekit tech. They work great and have a small delay, probably around 250ms.

I recently decided to upgrade from the prior Belkin Wemo smart plug (App Based version) to the Wemo Smart Plug with Thread - and regret the decision every day.

From the product itself to the customer service, I find myself thoroughly disappointed.

First and foremost, the functionality of the Wemo smart plug is far from reliable. Despite claims of seamless integration with Apple HomeKit. I encounter constant connectivity issues. The plug will frequently disconnect from my network, rendering it useless for extended periods - until either power cycled or reset. The inconsistency in its performance is frustrating, to say the least. And WHY not make it compatible with Alexa?

The run around from Tech Support is mind boggling - suggesting we need a different Apple HomePod to solve for bugs with the firmware. I am far from technology illiterate - yet customer service treated me like a kindergartner. It’s your product - not me - I wish I read other reviews prior to purchasing.

The mobile app, which worked with prior Wemo versions- is not longer compatible. The whole purpose of a smart plug is to make life easier, but in this case, Belkins decision to limit compatibility to HomeKit only added unnecessary complexity. Who in Senior Leadership at Belkin ever signed off in this idea?

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of my experience is the customer service provided by Belkin. This is also a leadership and Governance issue within the company.

When I reached out for assistance with the connectivity issues and app glitches, the responses were inadequate and not technically sound. It felt like they were more interested in brushing off my concerns rather than providing genuine support. It's disheartening when a company fails to stand behind its products and offer satisfactory solutions. They will not, 100% NOT stand behind their 2 year warranty. Anyone interested in a Class Action Lawsuit?

In summary, my experience with the Belkin Wemo smart plug and their customer service was far from satisfactory. The unreliable performance, coupled with a now non-existent mobile app, makes the product frustrating to use. Additionally, the lackluster customer service added insult to injury. I would not recommend the Belkin Wemo smart plug based on my disappointing encounter.

STAY AWAY... save your money and time, there are plenty of other products on the market and companies much smaller that will stand behind their products.

I've had mixed success using WeMo smart plugs with Apple HomeKit. The first generation of plugs was highly unreliable and constantly had to be reset and reconnected - not worth it. The second generation (the first slim models) were more reliable, but not without problems. They've gotten a lot better since HomeKit was updated for more reliability. This newest variety with Thread integration have been going strong since I installed them a month ago with no connection issues. Here's hoping all of the issues have been worked out!
