In a remarkable display of skill and perseverance, India opener Smriti Mandhana crossed the 7000-run milestone in international cricket during the first ODI against South Africa at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. This accomplishment makes Mandhana the second Indian woman to achieve this feat, following the legendary Mithali Raj, who accumulated a remarkable 10,868 runs throughout her illustrious career.

Mandhana's achievement underscores her exceptional talent and unwavering consistency. She reached this milestone with a stunning innings of 117 runs off 127 balls, featuring 12 fours and a six. This performance not only marked her first ODI century on home soil but also her second against South Africa. Throughout her sixth ODI century, Mandhana formed crucial partnerships with Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar, driving India's total beyond the 200-run mark.

Current captain Harmanpreet Kaur, according to sources, is also nearing a significant milestone, having amassed 6,870 runs herself. This highlights the depth and strength of India's batting lineup, showcasing multiple players consistently delivering top-notch performances.

Additionally, Deepti Sharma achieved a personal milestone during her 37-run innings in her 200th international match, surpassing the 2000-run mark in ODI cricket. Sharma's achievement added another celebratory note to an already memorable game for the Indian team.

The match began with Harmanpreet winning the toss and opting to bat first in the opening game of the three-match ODI series. India's batting prowess was evident as they set a challenging target for South Africa.

Mandhana's stellar performance, along with the collective achievements of her teammates, underscores the immense talent within the Indian women's cricket team. These milestones not only highlight the rising prominence of women's cricket on the international stage but also continue to inspire future generations of cricketers.
