Beauty enthusiasts swear by multi-masking for the skin, but now experts say that it works wonders for your hair too.

What is multi-masking?
Over the years, beauty and hair experts have realised that every person’s skin, scalp, hair does not fit under one label – dry, oily, sensitive etc. Most people have multiple issues like itchy and dry cheek,s but a chin prone to acne while the forehead is pigmented and sensitised. So using two or more masks to address those specific areas seems like a common sense approach that obviously works!

The same seems to be true for your hair. First, you need to assess your hair, starting with your scalp. Does your scalp get dry, greasy, easily itchy? Then repeat the process for your hair. You will be surprised that most people have combination hair. Like your roots may get greasy when you don’t wash your hair for two days but your mid lengths are still frizzy and your ends are dry. Take cues from your skin, it is likely that your hair follows suit. Once you determine your issues, whip up these delicious masks in the kitchen and get ready to go. All natural and no chemicals mean that you could actually eat your masks!

SCALP
Dry Scalp: Papaya is not only a superfood for your body but also for your hair. It improves blood circulation so it’s great for your scalp and also helps production of your scalp’s natural oils. Mix some ripe papaya with honey for easy application and a double moisture kick. Supplement this by using the Indulekha Bringha oil, which is a natural way to improve the health of your scalp.

Oily Scalp: Fuller’s Earth or multani mitti makes an excellent clay mask for oily scalps. Easy to find, you can always add in a few drops of lemon or orange juice and mix it with water to treat the greasiness. It’s also a cooling mask so works well to beat the heat.

Sensitive/Itchy/Troubled scalp: One of our all-time favourites is mixing cold pressed virgin coconut oil with honey. The easiest ingredients to find, the combination works like magic and easily gets absorbed in the scalp. Warm the oil a little bit to make it a soothing scalp massage. While coconut oil lends moisture, honey helps in sealing in the moisture, helps itchy scalps, and reduces dandruff because of its antiseptic properties. You should also consider adding the Indulekha range of products into your haircare routine -- its all-natural ingredients ensure a healthy scalp and mane.

MID LENGTHS
Dry/damaged mid lengths: Banana’s goodness carries the same benefits for your hair as well. The Vitamin B6 and Biotin lock moisture into the hair and repair damage. The recipe is to mix 1 or 2 ripe bananas (depending on hair length) with 2-3 teaspoons of honey. The honey helps to make the mixture smooth and also adds the extra moisture kick.

Oily mid lengths: Apple cider vinegar is a multi-tasking product – great for your skin, for digestion and also for an oily scalp. Mix one part apple cider vinegar with two parts of water and apply on your mid lengths. You can always add a few drops of essential oils like Lavender if you want add a soothing fragrance to your mask.
Frizzy mid lengths: To battle the frizz, the most delicious superfood comes to your rescue – avocado! You simply need to mash a ripe avocado with yoghurt and apply it to your mid lengths.

ENDS
Dry ends: One of our all-time favourites is mixing cold pressed virgin coconut oil with honey. The easiest ingredients to find, the combination works wonders and gets absorbed into the hair follicles.
Split ends: Egg masks are messy but really effective. If you’re using one only on your ends it is much easier. Just whip up egg yolks and apply on your ends. You can also choose to add more moisture by mixing a few drops of almond oil.

For maximum benefit, shampoo once and apply the masks on clean and damp (not wet) hair. Leave on your multiple masks for a minimum of 30 minutes with a shower cap on to contain the mess and wash off with a paraben and sulphate free shampoo. You will need two shampoos to get off the goop, but the end result will be so worth it. However, remember to be gentle and opt for shampoos that contain natural ingredients. Try the Indulekha Bringha shampoo for most natural yet effective results.

Happy masking!
