Shah Rukh Khan
They have taught us to feel and to love. When they sang, we sang with them. laughed, we laughed with them. And, when they cried, our own tears seemed endless. We have gyrated to copy their dance moves and loved every minute of it. Most importantly, they have had our attention and love much, much beyond the average three-hour screen time that we allotted to their films. Femina presents the iconic actors of Bollywood who will always be evergreen

He taught the country how to love, and what is expected from love. Merely the action of him stretching out his arms in what is now considered the ultimate, iconic romantic pose sends millions of hearts fluttering across the world. It brings alive the tagline – Come… Fall In Love – of his blockbuster DDLJ (1995). The King Of Romance – a tag that still holds good for the mighty SRK – has acted in over 108 films, of which over 17 have grossed over ` 1 billion in global ticket sales.

Progressing to films after having done two television serials on Doordarshan – Fauji in 1988 and Circus in 1989 – Khan created waves with his debut film Deewana (1992) for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Post that, he has gone on to win 15 Filmfare trophies, often winning both the critics and popular choice awards in one year.

An actor par excellence, Khan rose like the proverbial phoenix to resurrect himself whenever he faced a short dry spell. His talent is reflected not only in his acting, but in his business acumen as well; it shows the true depth of his hard work and abilities. Founder of production house Red Chillies Entertainment that has seen a number of box office hits, Khan also co-owns the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders and holds investments in other industries as well.

The big screen, OTT, TV, comedy houses, ad films, sports… everyone seems to want a piece of the SRK brand magic. He has danced at weddings to finance his dream projects, has gone out of his way to help others, has started a few charities, and yet said humbly in an interview with a portal, “Money doesn’t make me feel rich, it is when I hear my little one say, ‘Papa, I like you’, [that] I feel raees (rich).”

Whether he has a release or not, whether his film is a hit or not, whether he is in the city or not, one can always see a constant stream of fans outside the gate of Mannat, his Mumbai home. Such is the loyalty of his fans, unshaken by box office numbers. A similar following is seen on social media too, with 26.5 million followers on Instagram and over 42 million each on Facebook and Twitter. This following has come because Khan walks the talk. He has not only taught the Indian middle class to dream but motivated scores of people – through his own success story – to make those very dreams come true. He once revealed on a news show, “You cannot be restful or at peace if you want to be successful,” adding that, even when travelling first class, he does not recline the seat, because he wants to be pareshan to think further of achieving success. An actor, idolised across the globe. A man adored across nations. There is simply, no one quite like SRK.
