A comprehensive analysis of research spanning from 1990 to 2023 has demonstrated a steady increase in literature focused on macrophages and pulmonary fibrosis, with the United States and China leading in collaborative efforts. Key Findings: Total Publications: Between January 1990 and July 2023, there were 3,479 publications on macrophages and pulmonary fibrosis, averaging about 102 papers per year. Growth Over Time: The number of publications increased steadily from 57 to 117 annually before 2017 and surged to over 200 publications per year starting in 2020. A new study reveals that patients with both diabetes and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD) incur about 1.5 times higher total direct health care expenditures compared to those with ASCVD alone. Key Findings: Higher Costs for Dual Conditions: Managing ASCVD and diabetes together leads to significantly higher health care costs. CVD-related costs are projected to reach $818 billion annually for direct costs and $276 billion for indirect costs by 2030. Increased Risk with Diabetes: Diabetes doubles the risk of cardiovascular diseases, with ASCVD being the most common complication for patients with diabetes Rising Prescription Drug Costs: The primary driver of increased costs is the rising expense of prescription drugs.
