We are incredibly proud of our team's dedication to critical care, as one of our own played a vital role in saving a child with a life-threatening allergic reaction on a recent flight. Dr. Ashish Khanna, professor of anesthesiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, rose to the occasion.

It’s been a surreal last twelve hours onboard American Airlines flight 293 flying from New Delhi —-> JFK. Was called to assist with a medical emergency and successfully rescued a child with a life threatening allergic reaction. Great teamwork by other passengers including a pediatric surgeon and an oncology nurse and amazing support by the American Airlines crew and captain flying who took my call and diverted us to London while we were nearing the North Atlantic crossing. Critical care is all about teams and today was a very gratifying day of excellence in teamwork and professionalism where years of training and years of doing what I love saved someone’s life. And yes it’s a total chance that I was wearing my Society of Critical Care Medicine attire!
