We live out our mission to improve the health and lives of Louisianians each day with our friends and neighbors in mind.

About us

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is a company on a mission: to improve the health and lives of Louisianians. We take that mission very seriously and apply it to everything we do. But, we also like to have fun! After all, we live and work in a state known for its joie de vivre, its great food and its friendly people. That joy for life also affects everything we do as we strive to give our members the best possible experience and the best possible outcomes. Our company was founded here in 1934 and has remained Louisiana-owned and operated. Our vision is to be the statewide leader in healthcare, improving quality, value and experience through transformation of the delivery system in partnership with providers committed to positive change, and by serving Louisianians across all major market segments by 2020. That means it’s an exciting time to be part of our family. Every day, we are seeking innovative ways (and people) to achieve our vision and stay true to our Louisiana roots. Of course, we are aware of the urgent national issues regarding healthcare affordability, the numbers of uninsured and the quality of health services rendered. Blue Cross is providing education and guidance to help shape healthcare reform legislation, but it’s also important to us to reassure our members that we are going to be here through every change, making sure they continue to have access to quality care. Blue Cross collaborates with other business and community leaders to move Louisiana to a quality-driven model of healthcare using data, patient engagement, provider professionalism and financial incentives to improve health outcomes and promote patient-centered care. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and incorporated as Louisiana Health Service & Indemnity Company. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana is licensed to sell products only in the state of Louisiana.

  • Meet Talent Ambassador Vielka M. Valdez-Matos. Our Talent Ambassadors are a special group of employees who help share their experiences of working at Blue Cross with others, including speaking at career fairs, presentations and meeting with people interested in a career with our company. Today we would like to spotlight Vielka, a Provider Network Operations Director. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝑻𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑨𝒎𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖? Using my role as a leader and company advocate, I strive to attract diverse and skilled talent, boost our reputation as a good place to work, and foster a positive workplace environment we want to tell others about. It means I get to promote our employer brand, encourage employee referrals, network at events and job fairs, represent our culture, aid in recruitment efforts by showcasing our job openings and internship opportunities, and create then share social media content that supports talent acquisition.   𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒕 𝑩𝒍𝒖𝒆 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝒍𝒖𝒆 𝑺𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝑳𝒐𝒖𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆? Healthcare operations is not a very well-known or talked-about field. Potential candidates will be amazed at the career and impact they can have in our organization by applying for one of these roles. Much of the training is provided internally but current employees can apply the knowledge they gained in their degree field, depending on the operational area they are interested in working. With a business degree, such as what I have, I have been able to work in multiple areas, from a data & business analyst to a director role.   𝑰𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒇𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒑𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒆𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓? Always be open to the possibilities. Be the person that is sought after for solutions, and don’t dwell on problems. That gave me the go-getter attitude that anything can be achieved if we work hard together, leverage everyone’s strengths, and set our minds to it. For me, it is very rewarding to play a small part of someone’s potential future career and to talk to them about the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead should they become a Blue employee. The wealth of knowledge, skills and experiences they will gain will be useful not only professionally but also personally. • Three years after it was made a federal holiday, Juneteenth 2024 marks a day of celebration as well as education. Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. It's a celebration of progress. It's an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible—and there is still so much work to do. We are committed to creating a more equitable system for the health of all: https://bit.ly/3z93lHl
