DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION — A new retail incentive program sponsored by Greater St. Louis, Inc. and the St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC) offers up to $350,00 in grants to encourage street-level activity, fund improvements, and activate pop-up shops in Downtown St. Louis. We received an overwhelming number of submissions, and some businesses, like Brew Tulum — which is opening both a coffee shop and restaurant on Laclede’s Landing — are already pre-approved for grants. “Downtown St. Louis is a dynamic market, but it needs more retail activity,” Kurt Weigle, Chief Downtown Officer at Greater St. Louis, Inc. “The incentives on which we are partnering with SLDC are designed to attract high-quality businesses of all sizes to the heart of the St. Louis metro." The International Institute of St. Louis is currently welcoming the largest influx of immigrants and refugees to the St. Louis region in nearly 30 years, a fact that presents an incredible growth opportunity to the St. Louis metro. While the increasing number of immigrants moving to St. Louis is great news for the metro, IISTL is in urgent need of support to adequately welcome these new arrivals. Greater St. Louis, Inc. joined IISTL to express support of their work in welcoming and supporting incoming immigrants and to call for the St. Louis community to help the organization fill gaps in funding, donations, and volunteers. Here's how to help: crisisstl.org 📸 Jason Hall, Mohammed Raza Hassani, Afghan immigrant and owner, Raza Auto Sale and Repair, Kendra Holmes, RPh, Pharm D, Arrey Obenson

June 19 commemorates Juneteenth, the day in 1865 on which enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the promise offered by the Emancipation Proclamation, more than two years after its issuance. President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation — “sincerely believed to be an act of justice” — offered not just freedom but hope for equality. Nearly 160 years later, we continue to work toward the promise of this monumental document, with much left to do. At Greater St. Louis, Inc., we know that success for each of us is success for all of us. Achieving our North Star — inclusive economic growth — means that we must take into account the often painful history of both our region and our country and attempt to bridge the opportunity gaps left behind. Only by working together can we create opportunity, access, and equity for all. Explore Juneteenth events across the metro: https://lnkd.in/gpxAR354
