Available data includes information provided by owners and veterinarians of more than 3,000 golden retrievers over the course of their lifetime. We're funding two new studies focused on immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, a deadly blood disorder of dogs. One study will assess how the immune system goes wrong in dogs with IMHA, and the other will determine whether there are subtypes of IMHA and thus different prognoses and therapies. With support from dedicated animal lovers Allen and Barbara Dearry, we hope to make a significant difference in the understanding and treatment of this important but underfunded disease. From the first complete dog genome sequenced in 2004 to the thriving field of canine cognition and behavior studies today, our understanding of dogs has grown tremendously. Researchers have delved deep into the genetics of thousands of dogs, uncovering vital information about their health, behavior, and evolution. We're proud to contribute to this journey through the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, tracking over 3,000 good boys and girls to identify risk factors for cancer. These insights not only benefit our pets but also hold promise for human health research.
