The Fund for American Studies

I was deeply humbled to receive the Alumni Achievement Award from The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) last night in Washington, D.C. TFAS holds immense significance for me, as it played a pivotal role in shaping my life's journey and career. Over 35 years ago, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in TFAS’s Institute on Comparative Economic and Political Systems in our nation’s capital. It was during that summer experience that I discovered my passion for public policy. It was an honor to be recognized along with US Senator Katie Britt and Governor Haley Barbour and to have my wife Mary and son Sam join me at this special event.

As an alumnus of The Fund For American Studies, I am proud to support its mission furthering the principals of liberty and economic freedom. I am especially proud for TFAS to tonight honor a friend, a voice for liberty and a champion for Mississippi, Gov Haley Barbour. The chance to immerse myself in the vibrant culture and dynamic environment of D.C. this summer has been nothing short of extraordinary. Now that today marks one month into this two-month program, it's an ideal time to reflect on D.C.'s incredible opportunities and experiences. June was full of opportunities focused on personal and professional growth. From networking with professionals and program alumni to exploring the Smithsonian museums and enjoying the scenery of the National Mall, every day in D.C. presents a chance to learn and connect. Two weeks ago, I had the chance to speak with Avery Craine Powell to share my experience so far in the TFAS (The Fund for American Studies) Academic Internship Program. In the Today at Elon article, I reflected more about my experiences from mentorship and my growth through this amazing opportunity. I am very excited about what is ahead as I continue my internship and classes through July. Truly grateful to be supported by the LOUIS DEJOY AND ALDONA Z WOS FAMILY FOUNDATION INC this summer.
