North Market opened its doors in a neighborhood with few options for affordable fresh food. Five years later, it’s much more than a grocery store — it’s a community anchor in North Minneapolis. When Pillsbury United Communities was first raising money to launch North Market, our fundholders answered the call. Spurred by a challenge grant from the Edward R. Bazinet Charitable Foundation and Douglass Brandenborg Family Foundation, more than 40 fundholders have invested about $500,000 over the last six years. This week, we were delighted to visit North Market and see its impact with our own eyes. This grocery store is a true gathering space where neighbors come for everything from farmer’s markets to Zumba classes to flu shots. Many thanks to the team at Pillsbury for hosting us!
