Turning the carbon problem into the carbon solution. Extinction ends here.

About us

At AIR COMPANY we are paving a pathway to global decarbonization by transforming CO₂ into endless resources via industrial scale applications. Working with nature, rather than against it, our proprietary AIRMADE™ Technology mimics photosynthesis to transform carbon dioxide and water via renewable energy into carbon-negative chemicals and fuels. We have commercial partnerships with airlines including JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic, amongst others, and have been awarded multiple government contracts from NASA and the United States Department of Defense. AIR COMPANY has received industry recognition through awards such as Time Best Inventions, Fast Company World Changing Ideas and the XPRIZE for Carbon Removal. We are proudly headquartered in New York City and co-founded by Gregory Constantine (CEO) and Dr. Stafford Sheehan (CTO). Our team spans a diverse group of world-leading experts in chemistry, engineering and technological development and deployment. AIR COMPANY is backed by capital partners aligned with the company’s mission to boldly transform industry including the US Department of Defense, NASA, Toyota Ventures, JetBlue Ventures and Carbon Direct.

Introducing SAF School, a new educational series from AIR COMPANY created to highlight the potential positive impact of sustainable aviation fuel. Aviation's impact on climate change is undeniable, contributing approximately 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions, projected to soar to 22% by 2050 if left unchecked.¹ Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offers us a hopeful solution. SAF School will feature a variety of interviews, op-eds, articles and more that detail the intricacies of SAF and the role it plays in the aviation industry. Follow along on AIR.Index and remember to sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear about new articles. https://lnkd.in/g57aZvPa ¹ Dolšak, N., Prakash, A. Our annual AIR Scholars program was created to channel financial, educational, and career-based resources directly back into historically disadvantaged communities. Each summer, we welcome a Cohort of high school students to join us as Environmental Justice Research Interns for six weeks, culminating in the co-authorship and publication of an academic paper. Last summer, we collaborated with seven bright minds from the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment (BASE) and a new partner school, the High School for Innovation in Advertising and Media (IAM). The Cohort’s research centered on the intersection of climate change and food insecurity. According to the UN, food insecurity is estimated to place roughly 250 million people at risk by mid-century around the world. Leveraging waste carbon dioxide and new and emerging technologies like hydroponics can help address these impending impacts, especially in resource-constrained environments like Brooklyn, New York. The 2023 AIR Scholars Cohort developed the Tower Automated Garden (TAG), an automated monitoring system that uses sensors to measure the varying conditions of a hydroponic tower garden. From pH to water levels, this system decreased the amount of hands-on resources required to produce food in environmentally constrained environments. In developing this, the students learned coding and explored how captured carbon can be utilized to boost food access in urban environments. We are so grateful for the dedication and insights the students offered last summer and cannot wait to see what they achieve in their academic journeys and beyond. The aviation industry is responsible for about 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions. If it were a country, it would be one of the top 10 polluting countries.¹ So it’s no surprise that people ask, “Do I have to stop flying to save the planet?”. The answer: not necessarily. While many people make the personal choice to fly less, flying is an integral part of our economy and our lives, and we need to introduce sustainable solutions that allow us to continue. Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is one of the most promising solutions for decarbonizing aviation, as some SAF pathways can be up to 100% cleaner compared to traditional jet fuel on a full lifecycle basis.² Airlines and manufacturers are investing in the research and development needed to make SAF more accessible and cost-effective. In addition to utilizing SAF, airlines are also implementing more efficient flight operations: optimizing flight paths, reducing idling time on runways and improving air traffic management, which are all ways we can lower fuel consumption and emissions. Decarbonizing the aviation industry will ultimately require collaboration between policymakers, industry stakeholders and consumers. By working together and embracing innovation, we can continue to enjoy the benefits of air travel while preserving our planet for future generations. With over 30 years of experience at the FAA, AIR COMPANY’s Mark Rumizen is highly regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on aviation fuel. For our first SAF School piece, Mark sat with award-winning journalist, climate advocate and UN Human Rights Champion Sophia Li to explain the importance of the aviation industry making the switch to SAF. While flying is a massive contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, it’s also an integral part of our lives. Adopting SAF lets us keep flying without the massive carbon footprint. Watch the whole conversation and learn more about SAF's potential impact on AIR.Index. https://lnkd.in/edk8w9-i

These small pellets play a big role in our AIRMADE™ System. Made from Earth-abundant metals, our proprietary catalyst helps facilitate the chemical reaction between CO₂ and green hydrogen inside our reactor. Much like how plants use enzymes and energy from sunlight to convert CO₂ to sugars, our catalysts spark the transformation of CO₂ and green hydrogen to carbon-negative chemicals and fuels. Our AIRMADE™ System is an advanced technology solution that does something simple: convert CO₂, our most problematic greenhouse gas, into an endless resource of sustainable, high-quality chemicals and fuels. More than technology, we want the world to see that our system is a climate solution designed to decarbonize industries and reduce global greenhouse emissions. Introducing ENCLOSURECORE, a series of conceptual enclosures designed to highlight three key attributes of our AIRMADE™ System: CO₂ input, modularity and scalability and sustainable material output. For this series, we partnered with three design studios to create conceptual enclosures for our technology. Unlimited CO₂ Feedstock As we know, the main feedstock for our AIRMADE™ System is CO₂. Using this as inspiration, PROWL Studio created an enclosure that can be deflated, is lightweight and flexible and can travel with a small footprint. “We created a modular—we’ll call it soft structure—that can flex with whichever size of machine someone is putting into their space. The concept was that we were bringing the feedstock back into the product itself, so it’s inflated and filled with air.” — Lauryn Menard, PROWL Studio Modularity and Scalability The AIRMADE™ System is modular and scalable and can be deployed near end customers, distribution networks and anywhere else it's needed. This mobility makes it possible to provide energy independence to areas where traditional access to fuel can be difficult. Additionally, smaller modular designs help accelerate project schedules and enable simplified, more efficient and more resilient supply chains. With this learning, Toolhouse designed an enclosure that represents what a modular, flexible production system could look like, leveraging devices and materials that can travel anywhere and scale as a business grows. “Scalability and modularity [are] what kids play with. [It’s] what we grew up on—Legos, letter blocks. More seriously, it affords versatile possibilities, and it lends itself to fit the widest variety of needs and designing exploration.” - Joe Tsao, Toolhouse Sustainable Material Output Methanol is a key component in certain solid materials like plastic and fibers. It’s also one of the outputs of our AIRMADE™ System. Modem drew inspiration from this process and developed an enclosure titled AIRMADE™ Cocoon. ”The progression from feeding and growth through material production to cocoon formation is reimagined as the process of capturing CO2₂ to produce a CO2₂-based [material], which is then used to construct the AIRMADE Cocoon.” - Modem To learn more, head to AIR.Index to read the case study. https://lnkd.in/e5hpzeVM
