Our last National Safety Month spotlight highlights our Vineyard Department, where safety is embedded into every task, making it second nature for all team members. Their approach to evolving the safety culture started with a clear vision and strategy emphasizing people-first values and safety as a core principle. Regular safety meetings engage all team members, resetting expectations and encouraging feedback to improve practices. They’ve implemented comprehensive training programs and are developing EHS representatives at each site. Safety Gemba Walks enable real-time issue resolution, and a Non-Routine Pre-Task Plan assesses risks for infrequent activities. TFE regularly acknowledges and rewards safe behaviors, promoting a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility. This National Safety Month, we're proud to highlight our commitment to a safe workplace. Well done, Vineyard Department!

For our next National Safety Month spotlight, we’re featuring the Westside Winery Facilities Maintenance team, which has been making significant progress in enhancing its safety culture. The team members all play an active role on the team’s safety council, which promotes continuous safety awareness and communicates safety projects and initiatives. They have their own perspective on incorporating safety into their daily work and how TFE makes it a top priority. Dan White, Maintenance Mechanic III, said, “I continuously implement non-routine task forms to outline the details of work to ensure safe execution of the job at hand. I thoroughly communicate hazards with my team and other departments and implement controls for the present hazards. Within Westside Facilities Maintenance, I have witnessed many individuals talk about Safety FIRST regarding troubleshooting and repairs. I have seen people in my team implement STOP WORK policy to ensure all hazards are identified with controls in place.” Trent Hutchison, Winery Engineer, said “Our Contractor Safety is a big part of Engineering Project Management. I regularly collaborate with other team members to help with the modernization of the Contractor Safety program.” The Westside Facilities Maintenance & Engineering teams have gone 255 days without a recordable incident as a group. Keep up the great work!

In our next National Safety Month spotlight, we are excited to hear from Maria Zavala and Ryan Fagundes, who partnered on a safety project which made an instant difference in the workplace ergonomics of our Napa Valley Bottling teams. “We utilized an industrial ergonomics software called Humantech which uses motion-capture technology to assess our team’s daily tasks. The data helps us to evaluate each individual task for risks and improvements which could result in work related injuries. Maria’s role in the project was to make machine center ergonomic assessments which included collecting data using checklists and tools including videos, force meters and employee surveys, which provided a baseline of data in the Humantech system. She said “thanks to the teams’ support, the outcome of the project was very successful, we were able to identify and correct possible risks. All of the improvements we made were a result of the employee ideas and feedback given.” Ryan’s role this project was to assess the data and help implement solutions. Humantech was able to identify those areas where an employee ergonomic positioning could be improved. He said that “working together as a team, we would engineer solutions and then retest with the software. The improvements made task more efficient and safer. Individuals now have more energy at the end of their shifts.” When asked about TFE’s safety culture, Maria shared “Thanks to our safety culture at TFE, I have witness many improvements in our workstations, making it safer and easier to get the job done. Our supervisors and maintenance team listen to teams’ ideas and concerns and make changes needed to keep safety as our top priority. As of today, our team has worked 416 days without a recordable incident.” Ryan shared what he has witnessed that proved that safety is a top priority at TFE: “I believe the amount of time and energy we dedicate to this topic as a company shows it is a top priority. Specific examples I see include daily Gemba walks and meetings with safety, empowering every employee to put safety first in their day to day. If we see something, we say something. From a Maintenance standpoint we are constantly making upgrades to equipment to improve the safety and efficiency. As of today, our team has gone 1,149 days without a recordable incident.”

This June, we’re recognizing National Safety Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and emphasizing safety protocols and the individuals who embody our commitment to safety. To kick things off, let's hear from Al Sullivan, an EHS Supervisor with 19 years of experience at Trinchero Family Estates: “My biggest achievement since working at TFE is graduating in 2024 with honors and receiving my Bachelor of Science Occupational Health & Safety Degree. At TFE, we recognize that safety is a journey; and the number one priority is to stress the importance of creating a great safety culture at our workplace and ensuring that our safety programs and policies protects the well-being of all employees as well as educating them on how safety investments pay off in the long term of the business. In summary, safety is not just a moral obligation; it’s a strategic imperative for our company. By prioritizing safety, the organization creates a healthier, more productive, and sustainable environment for everyone involved. One of the initiatives I have been involved in is enhancing the safety culture by getting employees engaged to support as trainers in our life critical programs: Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout, Powered Industrial Truck, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms. It has been very rewarding to pass on my knowledge to others in this program. Outside of work my hobbies are camping with family and friends, automobile repair work, collecting old die-cast model cars, and my number one hobby is being in the delta river or lake bass fishing like a pro.”

Meet Mona White, our amazing colleague who’s marking an incredible 40-year milestone with TFE! From pouring wine in the tasting room to excelling as our procurement specialist, her journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Mona shares her reflections on her time with TFE and how it has influenced her life: “From my early days pouring wine in the Sutter Home Tasting Room to my current role as Procurement Specialist in Marketing and Sales, the journey has been wonderful. If I had to pick one of my greatest achievements from this ride, it would be my time as the Point-of-Sale Manager. Maneuvering forklifts, coordinating shipments and ensuring our promotional displays shined — I thrived on the challenge and camaraderie! My fondest memory takes me back to the rustic charm of the tasting room, which was the heart and soul of Sutter Home Winery. Those hot summer days, with lines stretching outside to taste our Deaver Vineyard Zinfandel and White Zinfandel, and the aroma of wine in the air, were pure magic. And what sets TFE apart from the rest? It's not just the perks like profit sharing and retirement plans, but the sense of family and opportunity that defines us. At TFE, you get the chance to grow and advance your career. There are so many folks still here after 30 years, proof of what an amazing company this is! When retirement finally rolls around, I'll be ready and excited for it. It's all thanks to the Trinchero family and how they've paved the way for our future. With every passing year, my goals evolve, but one thing remains constant - the joy of seeing our company grow and thrive under the Trinchero family's guidance. To all prospective TFE employees, take it from someone who's seen it all, this is more than a job; it's a journey filled with possibilities! And when I'm not busy at work, you'll find me cheering on the San Francisco Giants or exploring the great outdoors with friends. Here's to 40 years of laughter, adventure, and unforgettable memories with TFE — cheers to many more!” Congratulations on this remarkable accomplishment, Mona!

For our last Asian American Pacific Islander Month spotlight, Nina Wong, Environmental Health & Safety Systems Administrator, reflects on her journey with TFE and the individuals who have shaped her life: “My biggest contribution at Trinchero Family Estates is to help continuously improve the EHS systems. It is great to see the Trinchero family’s commitment to Safety and that is the reason I wanted to join TFE. Since 2018, I have been building up the Safety Culture here at TFE to be proactive and not reactive. My father’s work ethic about learning continues to inspire me every day. He would always tell us that we should learn something all the time. He spent his non-working hours reading newspapers, magazines, and books. Our mother loves to cook and to be in the kitchen. While growing up, us kids would always make banana bread together and to this day we share pictures via text of how delicious our loaves turned out! One of my favorite dishes to make is Instant Pot Turkey and Bean Chili over rice topped with shredded cheddar cheese, a dallop of sour cream and chopped green onions. It pairs perfectly with Terra d’Oro Zinfandel Port.”
