LLMs and GenAI are going to have a significant impact, but it will largely go unnoticed. Most of the changes will occur in the backend, particularly through the automation of tedious tasks like document processing. These case studies won’t grab the most headlines or attract widespread attention when discussing LLMs. However, I see this is where enterprises will realize the bulk of their return on these investments in the near term. I just published a piece (link below) on how Ushur is leveraging large language models to improve document processing in healthcare. Unfortunately, much of the US healthcare system still communicates via paperwork like faxes, and these documents have been too messy and unstructured for even traditional AI methods (NLU, OCR, etc) to process and understand. This is where LLMs are really handy. Their ability to extract information from these messy documents, organize them, and quickly integrate them into digital back-office processes is a game changer. These LLMs are excellent at classifying documents, extracting information, and providing contextual awareness.
