    Provide strategic leadership to sustain current programs and develop innovative responses to changing community needs to to align with the agency's mission; lead fundraising efforts to ensure fiscal sustainability and agility; oversight of a $10M budget and ensure equitable and efficient distribution of $5M of in-kind goods and services; serve as the chief advocate and spokesperson for the agency; ensure that MEND meets all legal, IRS and audit requirements and operates at the highest level of ethics and integrity; oversight of all operational and administrative functions; collaborate with the Board on matters of governance, mission, strategic planning and program outcomes.

    Since the start of the COVID 19 pandemic through April 2022, MEND has provided over 3/4 of a million incidences of service to struggling residents of the San Fernando Valley, such as providing healthy food, distribution of personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, sanitizers), resources and education to support physical and mental health due to stressors from the pandemic, and have facilitated 1000s of COVID vaccines in partnership with local clinics and pharmacies. In 2022, we are launching Here We Thrive, a comprehensive, holistic service strategy designed to build individual and community resilience by addressing core barriers such as employment, food security, income security, and other wrap around supports.

    MEND was voted 2021 best charity by readers of the LA Times and LA Daily News, maintains a Charity Navigator 4 -star "Give with Confidence" rating, platinum transparency badge from Guidestar, and is a top-rated nonprofit on GreatNonprofits.org.

    CA Senator Bob Hertzberg and the CA Women's Legislative Caucus

    The Woman of the Year event was founded in 1987 by Assemblywoman Bev Hansen (R) and Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D), who noticed that the California Legislature had no events planned for the month of March, Women's History Month. In celebration of the contributions to society made by remarkable women throughout California, Hansen and Tanner arranged to invite one woman from each Senate and Assembly district to come to the Capitol and be honored for their accomplishments.
