Job Overview

The Associate Principal TI is a supplementary position at high school level. The incumbent's primary role is to assist the principal with designing instructional programming to support high quality instruction and decrease educational gaps for students. The Associate Principal T1 will work strategically with the principal to implement programming that focuses on improved College, Career, and Military outcomes for students.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Build instructional leadership skills in the administrative team in both content and pedagogy
  • Support the principal in leading the development of the Campus Improvement Plan and assist with the curriculum-related activities such as program development and evaluation
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of the District approved curriculum in all courses
  • Monitor and develop Professional Learning Communities to ensure a progression for teaching and learning
  • Create professional development opportunities for the campus
  • Influence others to be excited and committed to furthering the Campus and District Vision, Mission, and Objectives

Personnel Management

  • Provide supervision and support to the Dean of Instruction
  • Lead and evaluate the campus Instructional Coaches and Assistant Principals as directed
  • Support the principal in defining the expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management and communication with the public
  • Practice a commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement
  • Assist with interviewing, selecting, evaluating, and growing high quality school staff

Administrative

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate systems to improve student outcomes according to the expectations set within the TEA Accountability systems
  • Provide leadership and support to campus regarding CCMR
  • Assist the principal with the design and implementation of programming to increase ACT and SAT passing rates
  • Stay current on the state Accountability systems and other TEA systems designed to measure student outcomes
  • Build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of cooperative and mutual respect
  • Assist the principal with communication to parents and community regarding Campus Improvement Planning, Accountability, and other key information

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities for the Dean of Instruction, Instructional Coaches, and Assistant Principals assigned to campus in accordance with the District’s policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

  • Master's degree
  • Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification
  • Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certificate or its equivalent Instructional Leadership Development (ILD or ILT) or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
  • Board Approved T-TESS Certification or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership
  • Minimum of 2 years (MS, HS) campus level administrative experience as an assistant principal or dean of instruction
  • Minimum of 2 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Possesses a moral and ethical compass
  • Demonstrates a heart and passion for leadership
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Additional Information

  • Work will require frequent prolonged and irregular hours including some evening and weekend responsibilities. Travel may be required to attend district and/or state meetings and conferences and school-related events.
  • This job is funded through Title I. This position may be discontinued if grant funds are no longer available.
