Status: Temporary Part-Time [~12 hours per week]

Pay: $25 per hour

Locations: Cabarrus, Catawba, Cumberland, Durham, Guilford, Mecklenburg, Orange, Union and Wake

Total Positions: 9, one per above county

About the organizations: North Carolina Asian Americans Together (NCAAT) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to fostering community among Asian Americans and allies in North Carolina through civic engagement, leadership development, grassroots mobilization and political participation. NCAAT in Action is a 501c(4)committed to supporting equity and justice for all by building political power among Asian Americans and allies in North Carolina through voter education, progressive advocacy, and leadership development.

About the Positions:

NCAAT & NCAAT in Action are seeking multiple candidates to join our team for the 2024 Election Cycle in North Carolina as temporary, part-time Field Canvassers. Canvassers will be going door-to-door, as well as the occasional public gathering space, to engage our community. The ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about meeting new people and building deep relationships with Asian community members. In addition to discussing civic engagement and voting with community members, canvassers will be sharing educational information about topics such as immigration, language access, racial justice, and more. Training, snacks, water, t-shirts, and other necessary materials will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage with members of the local Asian American communities by door canvassing to encourage civic participation and provide information related to NCAAT or NCAAT in Action’s campaigns and projects
  • Input accurate and correct data into the door canvassing app MiniVAN
  • Report to the Canvass Lead, any issues, concerns, or updates
  • Complete and turn in timesheets in a timely manner
  • Stay in constant communication with the Lead Canvasser for safety

Core competencies:

  • Committed to social justice and equity
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from outreach sites throughout the area including a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
  • Have some experience in customer service, community outreach, or phone banking
  • Basic skills in any Asian language is a plus but is not required
  • Familiarity with using NGP VAN and the associated MiniVAN mobile app is a plus but not required
  • Previous door canvassing experience for either an advocacy group or political campaign is plus but not required
  • Must be capable of door canvassing neighborhoods for extended periods of time
