Position Summary

The Data Architect [Cloud], is a hands-on lead role, responsible for creating and maintaining the enterprise data architecture by designing and implementing robust data integration, ingestion, curation, preparation, and delivery solutions using cloud native infrastructure, technologies, and services.

  • This role will not have any direct reports but many dotted line relationships within the engineering team, reporting directly to the Sr. Director, Engineering.
  • This role is key to delivering the Enterprise data strategy, collaborating with various stakeholders and cross functional teams across the Organization.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for architecting cloud data lake / EDW solutions in AWS, experience in multiple cloud platforms is a nice-to-have
  • Work with internal and external cross-functional teams to understand and architect scalable solutions to acquire, transform, load, validate, deliver, and support data from various internal and external dissimilar sources to improve the value, volume, and accuracy of Envision’s data, thus empowering Envision to make fact-based decisions.
  • Further develop and refine data architecture strategy by working with our business customers and IT leadership to modernize data-centric systems to make data available for use cases and data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
  • Architect scalable system solutions, including data structures, scripts, applications, and infrastructure that reduce data redundancy, comply with regulatory requirements, improve data quality and data flow, and maintain security at or above HIPAA standards.
  • Source and document data requirements, determine the current state of data architecture, develop a target state for data architecture, perform gap analysis to develop a data roadmap to resolve gaps.
  • Lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and use emerging technologies in the domain of data systems that meet feasibility, performance, and Envision Healthcare governance standards
  • Be accountable for end-to-end architecture and solution performance and availability by collaborating with IT and partners to identify and resolve development and production issues
  • Identify and document patterns in data relationships from enterprise systems, working with substantial amounts of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data
  • Write, maintain, and communicate data design documentation to inform development teams on creating integrated solutions for the data strategy
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of current cloud data technologies and recommend appropriate changes.
  • Define performance monitoring requirements.
  • Mentor peers and junior team members and promote a knowledge-sharing environment.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare data analytics in a provider group, health plan, TPA, or health system is required.
  • Understanding guiding principles of healthcare data collection, review and analysis is preferred.
  • Experience in working with the electronic data capture systems including electronic health records is preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating new data standards, technologies, and systems is preferred.
  • Experience architecting data lake / EDW solutions in AWS, experience in multiple cloud platforms is a nice-to-have
  • Experience leveraging cloud-agnostic data tools (ETL; EDW)
  • Experience architecting solutions which are consumers / targets of a Master Data Management platform
  • Experience migrating On-Premise MSFT SQL EDWs into single AWS cloud data lake & EDW
  • Experience with tool selection process, including creation of scoring rubric, storage & compute cost analysis, and facilitation of demos / POCs
  • Define and document architecture and technology standards, reference & solution architectures, constraints, and guidelines
  • Understanding of the current state of infrastructure automation, continuous integration/delivery, SQL/NoSQL, security, networking, and cloud-based delivery models
  • Working knowledge of software development and automation tools and methodologies (Jenkins, Git, Terraform, Chef, Python, etc.)
  • Scripting abilities with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to Java, Scala, C/C, C#, Objective C, Python, SparkSQL, JavaScript, etc.
  • Experience developing and delivering big data solutions working with large sets of data considering the volume, variability, velocity, veracity
  • Experience developing and delivering big data solutions using AWS services such as Lake Formation, Data Brew, Glue, S3, DynamoDB, EMR, Kinesis, RDS, Redshift, Athena, Aurora
  • Experience with serverless architectures, Lambda and Step functions
  • Experience implementing DR solutions to meet the RTO/RPO requirements
  • Experience with networking and security protocols, standards, and architecture
  • Experience in executing and delivering solutions in an Agile scrum development environment is preferred
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and analytical proficiency to internal and external stakeholders is required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to perform critical analysis with limited oversight is required.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Information Systems/Information Science/Informatics/Business or other related degree. Master’s Degree preferred
  • Hands-on knowledge of cloud computing, storage, and networking
  • Experience with on-premise to cloud migrations or IT transformations
  • 5+ years’ experience with large and complex database management systems exercising skills in Data Analysis, Data Migration, DW Tools Knowledge (ETL, OLAP), Data Modeling, Data Integration, Data Warehousing, and Database Design, and Cloud solutions
  • 5+ years’ experience in data and reporting analytics and/or development
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Window, Linux
