Development Controller (Semi-remote)


Diversified privately held real estate firm involved in ownership, management, development and redevelopment of numerous large commercial and multifamily residential properties seeks a Development Project Controller.


The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of prior and current development and/or construction accounting experience in either Residential or Commercial projects. The Development Controller will be responsible for overseeing and motivating Project Accountants, as well as the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, monthly closings, cash flow analysis, as well as review of requisitions, change order logs, insurance logs, permit logs, and be able to communicate with offsite Project Managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee multiple development transactions, interact with Executive members concerning financial forecasts and reports.
  • Supervise all aspects of construction and development accounting, including budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for distribution to outside investors, lenders and partners.
  • Ensure timely processing, review, tracking and general ledger postings of construction draws/loans for multiple projects.
  • Perform Job Cost analysis, reporting and monitoring of project budgets.
  • Oversee all aspects of cash management and forecasting.
  • Prepare year-end workpaper packages for annual audits and coordinate information flow to external auditors.
  • Effectively interface with development team, project managers, lending institutions, investors and vendors.
  • Train, supervise, motivate and set expectations to the project accounting team.
  • Maintain and improve utilization of Yardi Voyager software and provide support to the users.

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have advanced accounting management capabilities gained through 12+ years of hands-on leadership success, including at least 5 years of staff management.
  • Proficiency with Yardi software is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar is a must and an advanced degree preferred.
  • Superior management, leadership and development skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Ability to think strategically and analyze data.
  • Comfortable with face-to-face communications with ownership and the executive team.
  • Willingness to be “hands on” as and when required.

Salary: $160,000 - $170,000 plus bonus, comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental and vision), 401k match, Transitchek, generous PTO/holiday schedule and many other valuable perks.


The above salary range represents Advice's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible base compensation range at the time of posting and is not reflective of the total compensation package, which may also include benefits, equity and other non-cash incentives.
