This is a full time calendar year position limited to September 30, 2026 with anticipated renewal.

Job Description Summary

Basic Function

Leadership and stewardship of URI Online (URIO). Cultivate new external partnerships with local, regional, and international employers to provide and expand URI online programs and offerings. Ensure curricular quality and accreditation compliance of all online academic programs, as appropriate. Work with URI’s Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and the Office of the Provost to collaborate with academic units and the Faculty Senate on program development, review, approval, and evaluation. Work with URI stakeholders on online course design and production, delivery, and exemplary student support services associated with URIO offerings. Supervise the staff for URIO.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

In line with university strategic priorities, provide vision and transformational leadership administrative oversight, and coordination of URI Online.

Create, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve an innovative, transformative, learner-centric vision for online initiatives.

Cultivate successful relationships with local, regional, national, and international employers to develop and grow URI online programs and offerings, with an emphasis on in state and regional employers.

Develop and implement an action plan for URIO, including key performance indicators (KPI), congruent with the University’s strategic plan, to enhance current offerings and launch new revenue-generating activities.

Work in close partnership with the Deans and URI faculty to develop new online programs, entrepreneurially growing a portfolio of revenue-generating online offerings that deliver high-quality education while enhancing URI’s reputation and visibility.

Conduct periodic needs analyses and environmental scanning to understand URI’s relative strengths and market opportunities. Align URI’s online education portfolio with market demand to ensure that current and planned offerings match market trends and potential.

Ensure the appropriateness and capabilities of URI’s online modalities. Identify and work with URI service providers to address infrastructure, process, and resource needs for students and instructors.

Collaborate with the Office of the Vice President of Communications and Marketing on marketing for online education programs and ensure marketing materials are aligned with university approaches and preferences.

Collaborate with the Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning to support online program development, including faculty training, instructional design, and compliance with applicable federal and state regulations including and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Continuously monitor, analyze, and interpret data concerning URI Online enrollment, student success, budgeting and finance, diversity and inclusion, and student experience to ensure that all offerings are performing at a high level and advancing program KPIs.

Manage personnel and assess support unit services within URI Online.

Assist the Office of the Provost on academic program review and accreditation as it relates to online and strategic educational initiatives.

Personal computers, printers, word processing, database management, spreadsheet software, and web-based applications.

Required

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience managing, growing, and launching online and nontraditional education programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across a college/university.
  • Demonstrated experience developing external partnerships to provide online and nontraditional programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget projections.
  • Demonstrated experience forecasting demand and projections for online and nontraditional programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of online teaching pedagogy and the application of learning technologies (e.g., learning management systems, videoconferencing, virtual reality, and AI).
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic program assessment and systems of university governance.
  • Demonstrated university teaching experience as a faculty member.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education administration.
