Position Overview
The Flavor Development Technician is a key member of the Product Development team and will be responsible for creating, testing, and evaluating new flavors for our Cores, coordinating the flavor components of Cores up until launch. The Flavor Development Technician reports to the Special Projects Director.
Role Mission
The mission of the Flavor Development Technician is to help Füm achieve its vision by creating intense, sweet, and experiential flavors through development and innovation, to meet the needs of customers as they create their Good Habit and set Füm as the best in the flavored air category. They will be involved in the creation and development of flavor recipes, as well as evaluating and coordinating flavor development samples from external partners.
Responsibilities
Innovating how flavor is experienced through Füm and Cores
Coordinating flavor vision with Product Development, Marketing, Retail, and Operations teams
Developing flavor recipes on a compounds level that wow our customers
Managing flavor development relationships with external partners
Evaluating flavor samples from external partners against flavor goals, food grade specifications, and overall experience with our product
Evaluating supply chain resilience with the Inventory Manager for flavors
Matching flavors for supply chain changes
Verifying flavor quality periodically from different points in the Cores manufacturing process for quality control
Coordinating flavor testing with internal team and creating reports on feedback
Managing relationships with Focus Group partners, facilitating testing, and creating reports to share with the wider team
Key Performance Indicators
Number of Cores flavors created per month, meeting all requirements for creating a good flavor for Füm
Ratio of flavors created vs. approved
Flavor ratings from focus groups and internal teams for the categories of intensity, sweetness, and experience.
Customer feedback score on Cores launched & initial go to market performance
Revenue performance by flavor
Customer return rate and retail restock rates on specific flavors
Proficiencies
Strong ability to taste and articulate flavor notes and attributes
Previous experience in flavor development, specifically in adjacent flavor industries
Understanding of flavor ingredients such as Essential Oils and Terpenes and ability to create good flavors with them
Ability to articulate and coordinate around specific flavor ingredients with team members and external partners
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Creative outlook and innovative mindset
Bonus Qualifications
Market experience in vaping and smoking to understand the needs of our customers as they create a Good Habit
Previous experience in a marketing related role that involved flavored products
Compensation
The compensation will be $90,000-110,000 CDN ($66,000-81,000 USD) annually OTE.
Hours
It is expected that the responsibilities of this role be met, without hours being firmly set. Availability for team correspondence and meetings is Monday-Friday 08:00-16:00 MST.
