Material Handler

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Material Handler to join our Shipping and Receiving team. The Material Handler will be responsible for managing incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring accurate documentation, and maintaining inventory control within our facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a commitment to safety, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

Material Handling:

  • Receive incoming shipments of materials, components, and finished goods, verifying quantities, part numbers, and specifications against packing slips or purchase orders.
  • Unload, unpack, and inspect incoming shipments for damage, discrepancies, or quality issues, and report any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments, including picking, packing, and labeling products according to customer specifications.


Inventory Management:

  • Transport materials and components to designated storage areas or production areas, ensuring proper organization, labeling, and storage according to inventory control procedures.
  • Conduct cycle counts, inventory audits, and stock checks to maintain accurate inventory levels and identify any discrepancies or shortages.


Order Fulfillment:

  • Prepare outgoing shipments of finished goods, materials, or components, picking items from inventory, packaging them securely, and applying shipping labels and documentation as required.
  • Coordinate with shipping carriers and logistics providers to schedule pickups and deliveries, ensuring on-time shipment and delivery of orders to customers.


Equipment Operation:

  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move materials, load/unload trucks, and transport items within the warehouse or production areas.
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on material handling equipment and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.


Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines for material handling, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe operation of equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards for shipping, receiving, and storage of materials, including hazardous materials handling and storage requirements.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in material handling or logistics preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in shipping and receiving, warehouse operations, or material handling in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment; valid forklift certification preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to verify part numbers, quantities, and specifications.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and shipping software.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
