About our Team


At STM Journals, we collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. In support of our portfolio of 2800+ hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing.


This role is part of the Health and Medical Sciences, a dynamic and global team within STM Journals, with offices around the globe including China (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen), the Netherlands, UK, and USA. We manage an extensive collection of existing journals and society relationships, launch new journals, acquire new societies, and establish new journal partnerships to ensure annual growth and customer satisfaction. We deliver world-class content by and for researchers across the globe and take a strategic approach to support our various audiences: authors, editors, researchers, societies, and academia.


About the Role


As Publisher, you'll oversee international journals in oncology and hematology. You understand the importance of maintaining a deep network with and beyond Elsevier editors, authors, and societies. Collaborating globally and participating in complex industry discussions with high level stakeholders. You take a leading role in connecting with key Stakeholders (institutional, society, funder). You may work in Elsevier's US journal’s offices (Philadelphia, New York, or Cambridge). Your direct colleagues will be based in Elsevier offices in Europe, China, and the US. You will report to a Publishing Director in Europe. We support hybrid office/home working where homeworking is possible.


Responsibilities


  • Maintaining market awareness. Staying up to date with market developments, to identify and map market needs and business opportunities.
  • Managing portfolio strategy and combining market knowledge and data analysis. Developing a portfolio strategy that will deliver on Scientific-Technical-Medical-Journal targets and ensure your portfolio remains robust.
  • Developing the portfolio and managing content growth organically. By (title) acquisition as well as managing innovation of content formats and content extensions and channels. Consistently pushing commercial boundaries, translating growth opportunities and customer needs into concrete products and revenues.
  • Building relationships and staying in close contact with editors and
  • editorial boards within journal portfolio. Engaging with stakeholders across the research communities, including research institutes, societies, and funding bodies.
  • Appling teamwork. Working closely with team members and other publishing colleagues to help deliver on collaborative projects and goals.
  • Participating in projects that are run across Scientific-Technical-Medical-Journal. Contributing to projects within Elsevier that require Scientific-Technical-Medical-Journal representation. Relevant to the department, a pilot for a new product, service or business model, or to improve processes within.


Requirements


  • Have an Academic PhD/MD, in a related medical field is valued.
  • Have relevant Scientific-Technical-Medical publishing experience. Including open access, the China market, a proven record of setting and realizing goals, and making a difference to programs.
  • Display excellent networking and communication skills, in English.
  • Able to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Working equally well collaboratively or independently with colleagues and customers at different levels across locations and cultures. (In a deadline-oriented environment.)
  • Lead with a data-driven mindset and keen interest in new online developments.
  • Display financial and commercial awareness, with strategic awareness and eye for business development.
  • Be results-oriented with a rooted can-do attitude.
  • Be willing to travel in the US and internationally.
