While the usage of multi-body is a keystone for vehicle ride and dynamics simulations, its employment in NVH is usually limited due to the complexity of integrating flexible elements in the MB model through modal-neutral files. The joint research project delved into such complexity, establishing robust procedures to define MNFs and harmonize them with the MB equations; it also helped, thanks to extensive component-level test data provided by HMETC and HMC, to find a good compromise between component-level accuracy and computational efficiency. The multi-disciplinary project took advantage of IDIADAโs expertise in various NVH-related fields, starting with testing and data analysis (Beatriz Bragado), finite element method analysis รngel Sรกnchez Venegas and Multi-Body simulation Andrea Patrucco. Through an extensive testing campaign performed at IDIADA proving ground (simulated with its digital twin, IDIADA Virtual Proving Ground), it was possible to test the correlation of the resulting model, which, especially in deterministic comfort events, demonstrated the advantages of completing the high-frequency information of FE analysis with multi-bodyโs ability to represent large, non-linear motion. This innovative approach enhances classification tasks by using pairwise comparisons for more accurate predictions. ๐ W๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐๐ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฟ? Pairwise difference learning (PDL) has recently been introduced as a new meta-learning technique for regression. Instead of learning a mapping from instances to outcomes in the standard way, the key idea is to learn a function that takes two instances as input and predicts the difference between the respective outcomes. Given a function of this kind, predictions for a query instance are derived from every training example and then averaged.ย This paper extends PDL toward the task of classification and proposes a meta-learning technique for inducing a PDL classifier by solving a suitably defined (binary) classification problem on a paired version of the original training data. We analyze the performance of the PDL classifier in a large-scale empirical study and find that it outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of prediction performance. Last but not least, we provide an easy-to-use and publicly available implementation of PDL in a Python package. The PDL Classifier transforms traditional training data into pairs of instances, predicting class equality with greater precision.
