Tech giants like Google, Meta, and OpenAI are running out of public data for AI training. As a result, deals are being made with Reddit and media partners to 'feed the need'. However, these sources can be inconsistent and biased, presenting a significant challenge for monitoring misinformation. A study conducted from the Human-Centered AI Institute on Legal AI copilots including ones from LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters, and OpenAI's GPT-4, found that trust in AI models is still a blocker to operational implementation. 👉 AI copilots can reduce hallucination rates, GPT-4 had a hallucination rate of 43%, while the top-performing legal copilot had a rate of 33%. 👉 Senior lawyers appreciate the value of AI copilots in helping them brainstorm legal arguments and analyse large contract databases. 👉 Legal tech firms and academic institutions are developing benchmarking for legal copilots. The Financial Times recently shed light on the growing need for increased transparency in AI systems. Their article, "AI should not be a black box," raises some thought-provoking points: 📍 Early AI researchers used to share training data, facilitating collaboration and the identification of flaws. Today, tech companies have shifted their approach and now withhold insights into their training data, citing concerns over intellectual property infringement. (This shift has sparked controversy, particularly within the arts industries, where many individuals have attempted to sue, claiming that AI models have utilised their proprietary works without permission.) 📍 The lack of transparency in AI models is a growing concern. The design of a model determines how it interprets inputs and generates language. AI companies view their model's architecture as their unique advantage, keeping it undisclosed to maintain their competitive edge. Ensuring transparent AI deployment and implementing robust control mechanisms are crucial for managing AI's impact on jobs and maintaining trustworthy outcomes in the workplace. Regular human-driven audits and clear accountability are essential for responsibly harnessing AI's benefits, enhancing the workforce without compromising ethics or job security. Key findings include: - 4.8x increase in labour productivity in AI-exposed sectors. - 25% higher rate of skills change in AI-affected occupations. - 3.5x faster job growth and up to a 25% wage premium for AI-skilled jobs.
