I agree, my friend...but I also wonder how this form, this art, which is no distant from the daily lives of so many, becomes legible in fresh and meaningful ways. I wonder what we need to learn about invitation and engagement and event and public narrative and civic life to place theatre in relation to the gaps and needs you describe...so the hunger finds the meal, so to speak...

Really insightful. Theatre is sort of always in rehearsal for its own demise, but it always manages to come through as something reborn.
