West Virginia Day commemorates the date that West Virginia was inaugurated as a state in 1863, making it the only state created during the Civil War. The state of West Virginia was admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863, through a special proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln, as the state had seceded from Virginia during the Civil War. In honor of this historic event, June 20th was declared a State holiday known as West Virginia Day. On this day, West Virginians gather to celebrate all things related to West Virginia. As a bank that is headquartered in West Virginia, we are honored to be a part of this State and to celebrate this day! 🎉
