Last week I had the pleasure of kicking off the Workforce & Economy discussions at the inaugural CalMatters Ideas Festival, where leaders from across California came together to share solutions to the state’s most pressing challenges. I shared how important it is to remember that when we speak of California’s workforce and economy, we’re really talking about people — workers, their families, and their personal economic conditions. Unfortunately, low wages paired with an extremely high cost of living are taking a huge toll on working Californians. But it does not have to be this way. At The James Irvine Foundation we believe that if our economy is going to work for all Californians, we need fair and dignified jobs for all workers; equitable, effective, and accountable workforce development systems; and the power for workers to influence the decisions and policies that impact their lives. The discussions that took place last week served as a reminder that the California we envision is well within reach when we all work together. Thank you to the team at CalMatters for the event and for all your in-depth, year-round coverage of the topics that matter most to Californians. #CAeconomy #WorkerPower #CalMattersFest
