Calling all those who have been leading the way on energy-related communications and stakeholder engagement. The Energy Institute wants to hear from you! If you've been raising the bar with innovative campaigning and have contributed to improved understanding and knowledge of industry-wide energy issues, the Energy Institute's 'International Energy Awards' are made for you.✨ I'm looking forward to judging nominations for the 'International Energy Engagement Award' and I'll be doing so alongside fellow judge for this award, Ørsted's UK Head of Region, Duncan Clark. Why an award for 'engagement'? Anyone who's watched a worthy project or initiative struggle to succeed in the face of opposition, apathy or misinformation is likely to agree with these words from the Energy Institute: "Effective advocacy and public engagement is often the key determinant of the success or failure of any initiative. This award recognises the year’s best group contribution to raising public awareness across the energy industry, covering internal and external communications with such stakeholders as customers, regulators, employees, shareholders, etc." The deadline for entries is 27 September 2024 and submission requirements are not onerous (we're all busy!), so please consider entering. The award winner will be announced in Feb 2025 during International Energy Week. And 'international' means entries are welcome from anywhere in the world. Is the morning after an England game during the Euros a good time to attract 100 people to a breakfast in central London all about decarbonisation? Surprisingly, the answer was yes for our Arup-KOMPAS VC decarb solutions event. Fast-paced speakers took us from the seabed to the ceilings above our heads and the pavements we walk on. They painted a picture of a world where hard + software solutions that will cut emissions are emerging at every turn. And there are investors who want to support commercialisation. Here are a few of my highlights: Elizabeth Gilligan cracked the best Wrexham joke. Jess Kyte explained what BT is doing with EV charging in the Scottish Borders. Andrew Fitzpatrick admitted to being a ceiling nerd. Clara Semal included a wry line about submarines in the North Sea. Rebecca Stewart reminded us that old department stores can be beautiful. Thomas Jusselme mentioned his data lake. Tom Fenton warned us against generic retrofit. And Paula Kirk and Victoria Burrows kept us on track - and pointed out that it's about real action.
