Sensex touched the all new 80,000 mark. 5 years back in 2019, sensex was at 40,000 mark. doubling in 5 years. means a CAGR of 14.4%. If it continues at 13% which is the average CAGR till date, it takes around 5-6 years to reach 1,60,000 (to double). This will be huge right? i don't know when Sensex may reach 1,00,000 mark but that can become a psychological number for a nomad and chances of negative waves (rumors of fall) may be high! Individual stocks companies generally do a bonus or stock split to make the company's stock affordable for investors. Can that happen to Index? is it possible? Yes, it is possible but we don't call it a split, finance term is re-adjustment to the base or re-base. When Sensex was started in 1978-79 base was considered as 100. By 1985 it reached 500. In 1995, sensex is 3000. To bring down the value of sensex without adjusting the underlying value. there are multiple options. Most realistic options are. 1. re-basing the Sensex to 100 and start from 1985. (this will bring sensex from 1,00,000 to 20,000). 2. re-base to 10 in 1979 (this will bring sensex from 1,00,000 to 10,000). There could be plenty of other options too. Nifty50 was started in 1995 and based at 1000. History: As i know, these re-base was done a couple of times: The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index had a base value of 1,000 at launch on August 8, 1994. On January 3, 2000 it was re-based to 2,000 Similarly, the Nadaq-100 Index launched on January 31, 1985 with a base index value of 250. On January 1, 1994, the NDX was reset to 125 (in effect, a reverse split). What do you think? Is Sensex hitting 1,00,000 will be to costly for you to buy anything in BSE? #comment and let us know. follow Fortune Box to support out content. #Sensex #StockMarket #Investment #Finance #CAGR #Sensex80000 #MarketTrends #InvestSmart #FinancialGrowth #StockSplit #MarketRebase #InvestmentStrategies #BSE #Nifty50 #MarketMilestones #EconomicGrowth #FinancialLiteracy #StockMarketNews #SensexHistory #MarketInsights #FortuneBox
