Throughout the #summeratlazard, our global teams volunteer their time and resources to support various charitable organizations around the world.   Last week, 84 of our incoming financial advisory analysts from Australia, Japan and the US took part in a charitable initiative with Children's Aid. They filled 100 bags with school supplies that will be sent to the Frederick Douglass Community Center in Harlem, New York. Our UK team is also participating in the "Charity Summer of Sport," a series of weekly sports events for our charity partner Children with Cancer UK. This past week they enjoyed a rounders event at Hyde Park.   In addition to our philanthropic efforts, we are thrilled to welcome a new class of colleagues to our firm! Our New York office recently hosted members from our newest Financial Advisory Analyst class, consisting of graduates from over 40 universities worldwide, for training. Meanwhile, in London, Cyrus Kapadia, Co-Head of European Investment Banking, warmly welcomed our Lazard Summer Intern Class as they embarked on their 10-week program last week. Lazard acted as financial advisor to Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in the sale of its liquefied natural gas process technology and equipment business to Honeywell.

We recently hosted an alumni event in the heart of Paris which brought together past and present employees of Lazard, with CEO Peter Orszag as a special guest. Hosted by Jean-Louis GIRODOLLE, CEO of Lazard Investment Banking in France, and Co-Head of European Investment Banking, the evening provided an opportunity to reconnect and reminisce about shared experiences while working for the firm. The strength of our alumni network is a testament to the lasting relationships we maintain at Lazard. Thank you to everyone who joined and made the evening special.

“The delay in projects because of the queue…has caused some projects to be turned upside down,” said George Bilicic, Head of Lazard’s Power, Energy & Infrastructure effort, during his appearance on Veriten’s C.O.B. Tuesday podcast. Discussing the interconnection queues for clean energy generation, as well as the need for permitting reform, George drew insights from Lazard’s 2024 Levelized Cost of Energy+ Report. He emphasized the urgent need for queue and permitting reform to address the growing backlog of clean energy and natural gas projects, creating challenges for EPCs, developers, equipment suppliers, and end users. In the first half of 2024, there were 147 new activist campaigns globally, representing a 29% increase over the historical five-year average, marking the busiest half-year on record. Continued momentum in North America and Europe, along with a spike in APAC, fueled this activity. A new generation of activists has emerged, with some already launching successful campaigns and others expected to ramp up activity later in 2024. Discover our findings below:
