TOMORROW, the House Agriculture Committee is voting on Chairman Glenn Thompson's Farm Bill draft. Young Farmers joins many food and agriculture systems advocates in opposing the bill for failing to prioritize equitable #landaccess, #climateaction, #conservation, and more. BIPOC and #youngfarmers deserve a #FarmBill that addresses the systemic challenges they face. Contact your Representatives today to tell them to oppose the draft! https://lnkd.in/efRuG-Nv

We are disappointed that the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024 was voted through by the House Agricultural Committee. This is not the #FarmBill that we want to see signed into law! This bill fails to prioritize equitable #landaccess, divests from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (#SNAP), and strikes #climate provisions that would assist farmers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for extreme weather events. Take action with us and contact your members of Congress today to tell them we need a better Farm Bill! https://lnkd.in/e4ibSGAR

In honor of #Juneteenth, we are excited to announce that we'll be extending free Young Farmers Community Membership to students in agriculture programs at partnering historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Members of the Coalition help set our federal policy priorities, which guide our work fighting for policy change that serves the next generation in agriculture. Black farmers have been historically underrepresented and excluded from federal programs, so it’s crucial for us to center Black voices in our advocacy work. After 13.5 hours of markup discussions, the House Agriculture Committee passed their draft of the #FarmBill. We are disappointed that the text fails to meaningfully prioritize #youngfarmers, #landaccess, #climateaction, and nutrition assistance, but encouraged that the farm bill process continues to move forward. Thank you to everyone who took action this week to contact your members of Congress - we will not stop advocating for your priorities!
