I am thrilled to share that the team i have coached is going to the world robot olympiad (WRO) in Germany in the under 12 years category. WRO is an international competition in which this year 365 teams from 73 countries will compete between Thursday, 17th November to Saturday, 20th November. Hope to create awareness and encourage children participation in STEM and Robots. Lessons to be learnt from 29th November London attack: Lesson 1. People are said to be the weakest link in security, however these 3 have set a precedent that a mix of security awareness and organisation culture can turn the weakest link to the first respondents who not only controlled further damage but also managed the scene till help arrived. Lesson 2. Since the Finsbury park attack took place in 19th June 2017, the law of average had made this attack imminent. Risk Managers will have to accept that an incident free past is not an assurance for an incident free future - infact the converse is true. In cybersecurity this would also translate in not cutting security budgets because of past success. Lesson 3. Right to life Vs Right to data (i.e. UK data protection 2018 / GDPR). They are both fundamental rights but unlike right to data incidents, infringement on right to life, through incidents like these, do not get investigated with similar rigour. Example infringement on right to data lead to the dismissal of TSB CEO and penalties of £199 Million for British Airways. A rigorous enforcement of right to life will reduce such incidents and fatalities. #lessonslearnt #cybersecuritystrategy #cybereverywhere #GDPR #Security

My RBS Williams and Glynn mates would certainly agree :). For security professionals TSBs outage is a classic & rare case study which covered all components of Security .i.e. Availability (outage of many weeks to thousands of customers), but also Integrity and Confidentiality (through the many hacked customer accounts when fraud losses were 70 times the average). If Abraham Lincoln was a Security Professional he would have said: "You can Protect all the systems some of the time and some of the systems all the time, but you cannot protect all the systems all the time." Cybersecurity, in some ways, is similar to counter terror - they both have to succeed everytime against a determined, persistent attacker and protecting everything all the time (as ICO, EU etc may desire) is simply not feasible.
