Many claim fossil fuel companies are doomed, but the truth is different. Most Asian and African countries still rely on fossil fuels. Africa, for instance, only contributes 3% to global carbon emissions, and asking them to stop using fossil fuels would hinder their growth. The dream of a fossil-free world is still far off. I'm thrilled to announce my selection by the Harvard University Admission Committee for the 2024 Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) Asia Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. This August, I'll join students from around the world at Chulalongkorn University to explore the theme Reimagining Connectivity: Building Bridges in a Globalized Society. HPAIR, is a prestigious student-run organization of Harvard College, which offers a unique chance to engage with global leaders, including business executives, government officials, and Nobel Prize winners. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas, gaining new perspectives, and tackling real-world challenges alongside fellow participants from diverse backgrounds. This conference is more than just an academic event for me, it's an opportunity to create lasting connections and contribute to discussions that shape our global future. I'm grateful for this chance to broaden my horizons and be part of a community dedicated to collaborative achievement. Special thanks to Ranchida Phatthararuchi for her invaluable support throughout the application and interview process. They've filed complaints against seniors, alleging harassment and unreasonable demands. The issues? Assignments were due at 2:30 AM. Mandatory 5 AM campus meetings. Threats to withhold summer internship support for those who don't comply. Students reported feeling overworked, sleep-deprived, and demoralized. One even suffered a panic attack and fainted on campus. The placement cell, run by seniors, is at the center of these allegations. Emails show late-night tasks assigned with tight deadlines. But what was Dean Venkat Raman's response? He sees it as preparation for the corporate world. "If a task was given at 2:30 AM, the seniors were also awake assessing it," he says. The school is now investigating. They have an anti-ragging committee, but some wonder if that's enough. Is this rigorous training or going too far?
