Hello Everyone, I recently attended a virtual session on “Networking for Results” organised by Greening of Finance by Women (GroW) and hosted by Jaya Jain. The speaker was Neeraja Ganesh, a TEDx Speaker. It was an all-women event. I had the opportunity to interact with senior women professionals from diverse backgrounds. Key Takeaways: - Networking is all about giving. This hits hard as I had always understood that Networking is all about taking gyan from others. - Conversation starter helps in starting the conversion with new people. This happens when one is prepared. Asking an open ended questions lead to start of 2nd level of conversation. Being prepared just doesnt mean know about the event or the speakers but also having knowledge on various topics helps in initiating the conversation. Being prepared also mean- How one introduces oneself to others. Introduction should be relevant to the context, the audience whom we are meeting. Preparing 3 different introduction for 3 different context helps a lot. - Visibility Matters At physical event the easiest way to be recognizable is grab a seat at a spot where you are easily visible to others. For virtual event, having a profile picture and turning on the camera helps in making oneself noticeable. -Networking doesn’t take time but maintaining a long-term relationship takes time. PS: Recently, I read an e-book “Lean In” by Shreyl Sandberg, former COO of Facebook, recommended by Renita Nazareth. At the end of the book there was a link to the Lean In Community for different cities worldwide. From there I joined Lean In Network, Bangalore (created by Basis Co-Founder Hena Mehta) where I met Neeraja who encouraged me to attend this workshop. Glad that I did!!! She also encouraged me to create this Linkedin Post! This is an AI generated Image.
