It's that time of year again... Timmons Group Parks Week is back! Follow along this week as we feature a variety of projects that our teams have worked on that bring the excitement and accessibility of parks and recreation to our local communities. First up is Morrow Mountain State Park! Located in Stanly County, the 5,881-acre Morrow Mountain State Park within the Uwharrie Mountains is a beloved destination for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Whether you're into camping, hiking, boating, or horseback riding, Morrow Mountain has something for everyone. As part of a significant renovation effort funded by the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation, Timmons Group worked with Huffman Architects, PA, to enhance the park's accessibility and meet compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Timmons Group is proud to announce that our geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing (CMT) services practice has earned several prestigious accreditations from the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials). A significant highlight among these achievements is that Timmons Group is one of less than a dozen laboratories in the United States to hold the Thermal Resistivity of Soil accreditation. "The accreditation for Thermal Resistivity of Soil is particularly significant, highlighting our laboratory's advanced capabilities and our position as a leader in the field. Adding to the vibrant growth in the Monroe Ward neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia, Timmons Group partnered with Pinecrest to develop Parc View at Commonwealth, a new mid-rise, mixed-use student housing community next to #VCU. Just a short walk from VCU Monroe Park and MCV Campus, Parc View offers 168 modern units and 1,600 square feet of retail space. Designed with students in mind, it features art studios, study rooms, co-working spaces, and a multi-purpose workspace to support the academic journey of students. Timmons Group provided a wide range of services, including civil engineering, environmental, survey, landscape architecture, and geotechnical engineering services for this exciting project. Timmons Group's Kelly Leggett Bowers, NCCED has earned the prestigious #NCCED designation from North Carolina Economic Development Association and East Carolina University. With fewer than 30 certified professionals, the #NCCED is a rigorous process where candidates must complete seven courses and a capstone project to become a North Carolina Certified Economic Developer. “Kelly has proven to be an asset for economic development across the entire state and continues to position herself as an industry leader in the region through her impactful work and many accomplishments," said Joe Hines, PE, MBA. Have you ever heard of a 'Bridge' Day? We hadn't either until our structural design team told us! Bridge Days are weekdays that bridge a holiday and weekend... Who knew?! To celebrate, we're highlighting a unique bridge that our structures team recently completed in Cuba. The Guantanamo Bay Bridge Rehabilitation project involved the structural repair of a bridge built in the 1950s located at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, otherwise known as GTMO. Under this design-build project, the team successfully repaired the 200-foot-long bridge, extending its lifespan and ensuring safe passage over the Guantanamo River.
