I know you might not be thrilled about LinkedIn, but let's face it - it's necessary in today's job market. And I hate to break it to you, but most of you have a less-than-stellar LinkedIn profile. No offense, but it's time for some tough love. Here are a few reasons why your profile might be falling short: 1. Your Contact Info tab is empty. How do you expect anyone to reach out if your email isn't even listed? 2. You think adding your website link in the About section creates a hyperlink. Spoiler alert: it doesn't. 3. It's obvious you haven't updated your profile in ages. You might live in New York now, but your profile still says Nashville. I get it, LinkedIn isn't the most exciting platform, but it's how recruiters and potential employers are going to find you and validate your credentials. So, as much as you might want to ignore it, you can't afford to let your profile suck. Take some time to spruce it up, and you'll be one step closer to landing that dream job.

I get it – most of us have a love-hate relationship with LinkedIn. But here's the truth: recruiters and potential employers use LinkedIn to find talent and validate your credentials. By neglecting your profile, you could be missing out on your dream job. If you're a creative who maintains a presence on LinkedIn, it's time to take a closer look at your profile. Here are a few reasons why your LinkedIn profile might be falling short: - Your Contact Info tab is incomplete. - Make sure your email address is easily accessible. - You've included your website link in the ‘About’ section, but it's not hyperlinked. This makes it harder for potential employers to find your work. - Your profile is outdated. - If you've moved cities or changed jobs, update your information accordingly. So, take a few minutes to spruce up your LinkedIn presence. These small changes can make a big difference in your career prospects. Don't let it suck!!!

I got laid off 23 years ago, and that became the catalyst for my biggest growth moment. Picture this: it's 9/11, and I'm an agent at a big staffing company. The world is in chaos, and I'm called into a meeting with the big managers. I knew what was coming, but I wasn't afraid. I walked into that room armed with my folders, my lists, and my unwavering confidence. And then, it happened. They laid me off. But here's the thing: I had been laid off before, and I refused to let fear control me. I looked them in the eye, and they were taken aback. "You're so professional," they remarked. "I'm prepared for this," I replied. And then, they said something that would change the course of my career: "You don't need us. You can just recruit on your own, start your own agency." So, I did. Fast forward 23 years, and I'm still here, running my own successful agency. If you find yourself in a similar situation, facing a layoff or a role cut, I have some advice for you. First and foremost, don't be scared. Be honest with yourself. Sometimes, those roles aren't the perfect fit, and this could be an opportunity in disguise. The best thing you can do is be prepared. Layoffs happen to everyone, from junior employees to senior vice presidents and executives. It's never fun, and it always feels like a punch to the gut. But if you find yourself in that all-hands meeting or that ominous one-on-one, remember to stay calm, cool, and collected. Ask questions, especially legal ones. Fight for your severance. And then, take a step back and look at this as an opportunity. Another door just opened, and it's up to you to walk through it.
