The results are in – spending on GLP-1s is now the highest of any drug class in the nation. A new study from the AJHP found that GLP-1s contributed to a 13.5% increase in national drug expenditures. Last year, spending on #semaglutide (the active ingredient in #Ozempic and #Wegovy) doubled to a staggering $38.6 billion – more than any other drug in the U.S. GLP-1s have an important role to play in combating our metabolic health crisis, but they aren’t for everyone, forever. The costs are unaffordable for many, with side effects and unsustained outcomes once the drugs are removed. https://lnkd.in/gbyHT8bj

One of our first Twin Health members, Devlin was profiled in a four-part series in Business Insider. We’re proud of the work we’re doing to help members with diabetes or obesity heal their metabolism and safely eliminate medications. And we are thankful to Devlin for sharing his experience. “Every time I went to my doctor, it was like, ‘well, that’s not working,’ here’s another prescription, here’s another prescription. At some point, I just sort of lost hope, and I said, ‘Forget it. I’m just going to die young.” With Twin, Devlin was able to see daily, detailed insights on how sleep, movement, and nutrition can work together to heal his metabolic system and spark a radical life change. Digital twin AI is a new kind of precision medicine. In a business environment where employers are already spending about $245 billion annually on medical costs associated with diabetes, GLP-1 medications are only accelerating that trend. Traditional digital health approaches, as the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) report highlighted earlier this year, aren’t providing them or their employees any relief. Neither medications or traditional digital platforms are changing the trajectory of this health crisis for employees. A new Modern Healthcare article authored by Gabriel Perna highlights why our partner Andreas Mang at Blackstone Equity Healthcare has championed Twin Health among the private equity firm’s portfolio companies. Employers that partner with Twin are enabling their employees to make individualized, continuous diet and lifestyle adjustments that improve their metabolic health – seemingly small adjustments that deliver sustained results. “I think this is indicative of what the employer side in this whole equation of healthcare has the power to do,” Andreas told Modern Healthcare. “If you bring people together, you can really do some pretty amazing things and get at a meaningful piece at least of improving healthcare.” Blackstone has successfully held healthcare costs to roughly 2% over 10+ years and delivered an NPS around 80, achieving some of the highest satisfaction scores in the industry. The Blackstone results speak for themselves: 98% of employees participating with Twin use the technology five days a week with 92% using it every day. This sustained engagement has helped members with a starting BMI of 30 or higher lose an average of 13 pounds after six months. That six month point is where a majority of members begin eliminating their diabetes medications altogether. Nearly 62% of these highly-engaged members have eliminated GLP-1s, 90% have eliminated SLT-2s and 61% have eliminated all high-cost medications. This is the power of digital twin technology. It’s an approach that understands every person is an N of one – an individual with their own unique behaviors, biology and preferences. Read more about Twin Health’s partnership with Blackstone, and how we’re helping our members heal their metabolism, get off GLP-1s and reverse diabetes below.
