A common piece of YC advice is to set your initial price high and decrease it based on customer reactions. While this is generally true, the opposite is true for mobile app subscriptions. Here, you want to start low and experiment with price increases over time. Why? Because in the App Store, when you decrease prices for new subscribers, you are forced to decrease prices for your existing subscribers too. This means if a user subscribed at $10 / month, but you decrease price to $5 / month, Apple automatically decreases existing monthly subscriptions to $5 / month even if the users subscribed at $10 / month. Whereas, when you increase prices for new subscribers, you grandfather your existing subscribers to your old price. Users who subscribe at $5 / month stay at $5 / month even if the price increases to $10 / month. Ultimately, price increases from X to Y -- instead of price decreases from Y to X -- increases overall revenue AND rewards your early subscribers by giving them a lower price point.

If you want to start a company, the correct steps are: 1. Find a co-founder 2. Find a real customer you want to help 3. Find a problem you want to solve for that customer 4. Find a solution to that problem Founders get it wrong if they execute the steps in the wrong order. One classic mistake is starting with a solution. Another mistake is choosing a problem and THEN trying to find those hypothetical customers. Another mistake is choosing an idea and THEN recruiting a co-founder. It turns out that it's easier to recruit co-founders when you're not set on an idea and when there's room for you to come up with an idea together.
