It's a busy summer for snowmaking manager, Guy, and his team at Hunter Mountain! This summer, Hunter is embarking on major infrastructure upgrades including replacing Broadway and the E Lift, and adding automated snowmaking to Belt Parkway, Clair’s Way, and Way Out. As Guy explains, this automated equipment houses its own weather station increasing snow production at the most opportune times, maximizing snowmaking windows.

Hotham Alpine Resort recently opened the Bunderool Carpet and welcomed senior Gunai elder Sandra Patten for a special "Welcome to Country" and "Smoking Ceremony," to mark the occasion. This is the first lift infrastructure named with guidance from the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, strengthening the connection between our resort community and the land, while honoring the Indigenous custodianship of the area. Bunderool means hill covered by snow. As said by Sandra, “I’m very privileged and am mesmerized by the mountains, I feel home. As the smoke drifts over the area, it will keep it safe and welcome people to this land.” The Bunderool carpet is part of an ongoing commitment to improve the experience for beginners on the mountain and is a reflection of Hotham's ongoing commitment to our Be Inclusive core value - both with the naming of the carpet and welcoming beginners to the sport.

Congratulations to Jake Schoenfeld of Park City Mountain for being named Snowmaker of the Year by Ski Utah in the inaugural Yeti Awards! As said by one of his nominators: "Jake takes time out of his work day to make sure our staff feels seen and heard. He creates a culture of inclusiveness. He takes the time even if there are more important things to do to train our staff and make sure they have the tools to be successful. Even though snowmaking is not a direct guest-facing department, Jake provides excellent customer service by ensuring the snow we make is the best possible quality for our guests to enjoy.”

SOS Outreach's comprehensive two-week career development program for high school students, provides mentorship and equips young people with essential skills for job interviewing, workplace etiquette, and navigating the job application process. We recently welcomed a group of SOS Outreach participants to our corporate office in Broomfield to talk all about the different career paths they can take within the ski and outdoor industry. Thanks to partners like SOS, we're working to actively diversify our workforce and talent pipeline.

National Ski Areas Association's Collision Prevention award recognizes campaigns that communicate the critical message of collision awareness and prevention most effectively. Two years ago, The National Brotherhood Of Snowsports celebrated their 50th anniversary at Vail Mountain, and we’re proud to be welcoming NBS back to Colorado in 2025! National Ski Areas Association's Safety Champion award is given to a ski area employee who shows dedication toward helping employees and guests learn about safe skiing and riding, and advocates for safer work practices and healthier behaviors. This year’s winner is our very own Kolina Coe, Director of Mountain Operations at Keystone Resort, who shows exactly what it means to accomplish big goals and drive progress, while keeping safety top of mind. Kolina led the Keystone team through the Bergman Bowl terrain expansion project, with no injuries or safety incidents for employees or contractors. She also led the snowmaking, terrain parks, and grooming teams all to successful zero injury seasons, led bi-weekly Slope Safety Ski arounds, and led the creation of Keystone’s mountain dispatch team.
