CHANGE

Change of any kind can be very unnerving to anyone — whether it’s due to the loss of a job, divorce, death, or illness – it can be life altering.

Many of our customers at the Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland(CEOGC) confront change on a daily basis often in the form of the “lack” of something – food, clothing, housing, furniture, money, employment, etc., and too often, hope.

Our responsibility at CEOGC, and we take it very seriously, is to help individuals and families manage the change: to give them a vision beyond their current circumstances and the tools to pursue it.

It often begins with a word of encouragement from our committed staff to a customer such as, “Yes, you can have a better life! Let me tell you what I was able to overcome.” Or, “Absolutely, you can do it. Let’s put our heads together and map out a plan for your success.” Or, “Let’s get your lights and/or gas restored and then we’ll talk about how we can help you chart and achieve your dreams for yourself and your family.” Each conversation helps the person look beyond today to a better tomorrow.

We have been in the change business for over 50 years since our founding as a result of President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty and the passage of the Economic Opportunity Act in 1964.

Our next 50 years, like the last 50, promise to be filled with new stories of how CEOGC, through our committed staff, has continued to change the lives and support the dreams of hundreds of thousands of children and families who believed us when we said, “Yes, you can do it!”
