Now more than ever is the time to keep your job search alive.

Now more than ever is the time to keep your job search alive.

As a careers advisor this is a common question that, students and graduates have been asking me recently. Should I make a start on my job search?...No one is hiring so what is the point of job seeking? & for some motivation and confidence has been, knocked, so it is easier to just, ignore the job search. My response is now more than ever is the time to keep your job search alive.

Our personal job searches are not just about applying for jobs they are about, updating and refining your personal brand through social media platforms, connecting with professionals within the sectors you are interested in and building your professional networks. LinkedIn is my favourite go to for this, as it helps you tick multiple boxes…Build your LinkedIn Profile; connect with professionals and practitioners within your fields of interest, follow companies and join groups, and be kept up to date with opportunities. & don’t forget you can be working on your professional development with LinkedIn Learning.

By regularly working on these activities daily, your job search stays alive, your confidence and motivation grows, and your hard work will lead to future opportunities. Yes…some opportunities may not appear immediately, but sectors will bounce back, and I genuinely believe that we will see businesses creating new roles alongside existing ones. Our new normal will bring positive change and opportunity for the job seeker.

Reading The Muse’s article this morning made me smile, as it reaffirmed all of the positive messages I practice and share with my students and grads.

Totally agree there are plenty of steps job searchers can be taking to prepare for when the job market picks up or even to identify the more limited options available now. Not least self reflection, which often doesn’t get the time it needs, squeezed by final exams and well, job search!
