WHO is forgetting Health?

To me health is the state of physical, mental, emotional, social & spiritual well-being. None are optional, all are equally important and will require a lifetime of focus.

The 7th of April is a day to celebrate 'World Health Day' by the World Health Organization (WHO) creating awareness on yearly changing topics. This year's topic is "building a fairer, healthier world", which in my opinion is quite necessary. I wonder... why does this feel hollow, maybe even a tiny bit wrong?

Let me explain. The definition of health by the WHO is "a complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". Furthermore "the WHO is committed to ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can realize the right to good health". They believe COVID-19 has highlighted the inequality of people being able to live healthier lives. At the same time they forget to mention or promote a healthy lifestyle when talking about COVID-19. Hollow!

A missed opportunity in my book. What about a global campaign to focus and improve the physical, mental, emotional, social & spiritual well-being of the people? What about this exact topic for this year's theme on World Health Day? Why is the WHO forgetting the basics of health? So basic that everyone can focus on it without the need of extra money or politics. I am no health professional, but many of them state that a healthy immune system will prevent many diseases and in the case of COVID-19 help the patient to better cope with the virus IF infected.

My theme for World Health Day is Health 2.1 and I promote a short daily workout routine for at least 7 minutes, meditate for at least 5 minutes, talk to at least one loved one every day, reduce processed sugar, increase the intake of fruits and veggies and if you can... only if you can, take a walk outside for at least 20 minutes. Consult your physician for added value. ;)

Let's create a healthier world! Start today.

Cheers Arvind
