Supplier Quality Engineer, Battery Responsibilities
  • The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will work closely with engineering team to understand product design intent and then be a major part of supplier identification and selection. Develop and institutionalize supplier selection process. Evaluate prospective suppliers for process capability based on project needs.
  • Responsible for supplier quality management with a focus on assessing supplier production and quality control, evaluating supplier readiness and adherence to module quality plan, and supporting general mechanical assembly & manufacturing operations.
  • Partner with engineering to define product acceptance criteria. Collaborate with suppliers in assessing, proposing and developing testing plan and metrology on project requirements.
  • Drive Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) activities with supplier on process design for complex geometries and provide technical support in enhancing process capability and resolving technical issues.
  • Establish quality programs and manufacturing process control plans for early detection of issues and to ensure the highest level of quality and reliability is consistently delivered.
  • Responsible for conducting Process FMEA, PPAP, NUDD and Statistical Process Control. Knowledgeable in conducting DOEs, Line qualification, Machine Buy-off, Cycle Time & UPH studies, and Automation.
  • Publish concise reports or plan for module yield performance, specification convergence status
  • drive Failure analysis, Corrective action implementation plan, and yield bridge to mass production.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Material/Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years working experience in lithium-ion battery cell industry. Solid knowledge on either manufacturing process design, and/or product quality management, and/or mechanical structure design, and/or chemistry system design.
  • Hands-on experience in lithium-ion battery cell’s performance characteristics. Solid knowledge on cell electrical, reliability and safety test.
  • Experienced in lithium-ion battery cell’s typical failure mode and its corresponding failure analysis methodology.
  • Familiarity with cell dimensions callouts and corresponding metrology.
  • Good communication skills, willingness of team collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Material/Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of working experience in lithium-ion battery cell industry.
  • Familiarity with GD&T practice, tolerance analysis.
  • Familiarity with 6-sigma methodology and tools.
  • Familiarity with battery pack manufacturing process, dimension measurement and electrical performance testing.
  • Familiarity with a variety type of lithium-ion battery cells’ manufacturing process and quality controls.
  • Ownership and leadership mindset with ability to be leading toward big picture and achieving result with minimum supervision.
