When it comes to pastries, nowhere in the world does it quite as well as Paris, so it should come as no surprise that the latest croissant trend emerged in the city of love.
We’re talking, of course, about the viral ‘crookie’, which has been plastered all over TikTok and Instagram of late, as foodies rush to try the decadent treat.
As the name suggests, the crookie is a cross between a croissant and a cookie, with cookie dough being added to the pastry while baking.
The trend appears to have originated at Maison Louvard, a boulangerie on Rue de Châteaudun, where the bakery is serving crookies up daily.
The owners are renowned for their croissant (voted the seventh best in France in 2022) and their cookies, so they decided to combine the two – and they were clearly on to a winner.
A version of the crookie first launched at the cafe in October 2022, but it’s only in the last few months that the pastry has really taken off and become a must-try.
Videos online show people buying and trying the sweet treat, which fans have hailed as ‘divine’, ‘a masterpiece’, ‘epic’ and rated 10/10.
On Instagram, @thuydosette said: ‘These guys are incredible! I ordered some this morning.’ While on TikTok @luykalice said: ‘When I say this was DIVINE. Yum, it’s crispy, salty and sweet. It’s a 10/10.’
People have been so desperate to try the sweet treat that similar versions have been popping up all over the place in bakeries in Dubai, New York, and Amsterdam — and the crookie has finally arrived in London.
Philippe Conticini, the mastermind behind the viral round croissants and the capital’s giant croissant, has just launched his own version of the crookie at his bakery in South Kensington. The French pastry chef also has locations in Camden and Islington.
The croissant cookie hybrid is a weekend special and costs £5.95. The pastry is filled with cookie dough, crushed hazelnuts and lots of chocolate chips.

Several other top London bakeries have also hopped on the craze, with Chestnut Bakery (Belgravia and Covent Garden) and The Apple Blue in Balham also launching their own cookie croissants.
