Did you know that everyday objects in the background of photos can help rescue children from abuse? Europol’s innovative "Stop Child Abuse – Trace an Object" campaign uses public insights to crack cases of child sexual abuse. Since 2017, nearly 28,000 tips have led to the rescuing of 26 children and prosecuting 5 offenders. How? By identifying seemingly ordinary items—like a toy, a piece of clothing, or unique decor—that appear in images of abuse. You can make a difference! Visit Europol’s website and see if you recognise any objects from their list. Your insight could be the key to saving a child and bringing abusers to justice. INHOPE is the leading global network of 54 hotlines in 50 countries combating online Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
Over ons
INHOPE is the leading global network combatting online Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). The Network consists of 54 hotlines in 50 countries (as of January 2024) that provide the public with a way to anonymously report illegal content online with a focus on CSAM. Reports are reviewed by content analysts who classify the illegality of the material, which is then shared with local Law Enforcement Agencies and a notice and takedown order is sent to the relevant Hosting Provider. We support hotlines and their partner organisations through training, setting high quality standards and best practices for hotline operations, and ensuring staff welfare. We provide the hotline network with a secure platform called ICCAM that facilitates the exchange of CSAM reports between hotlines and INTERPOL. INHOPE promotes legislative and policy developments that support our vision of an internet free from CSAM. INHOPE is based in the Netherlands and our member hotlines operate across six continents: Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Europe, North and South America. In a borderless digital world CSAM has global consequences and as its distribution grows so do our efforts. This is only possible with the support and funding from the European Commission, Safe Online, NEO Philanthropy Foundation and INHOPE’s corporate partners. Join us in the fight!

An INHOPE farewell to Susie Hargreaves OBE "Susie Hargreaves burst into the INHOPE world with much gusto and aplomb in April 2012 when she joined INHOPE’s Annual General Meeting, being held in London that year. She was new to the role and eager to learn as much as possible from other members. This hunger to learn and grow has never slowed down over the past 13 years. As the online space has rapidly changed, grown, and diversified, Susie has ably led the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) to the point today where it is recognised as one of the world’s leading organisations tackling online child protection. On behalf of all INHOPE members, the INHOPE Board and Secretariat I would like to thank Susie for all her hard work over the years and wish her the best of luck in all her future endeavours." - Denton Howard, Executive Director at INHOPE

Vihjeliin received 812 reports of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in 2023 alone. Their dedicated team works around the clock, ensuring that every report is reviewed within 48 hours. The hotline assesses public websites according to Estonian law and swiftly collaborates with international partners through the INHOPE network. If illegal content is found, it is either dealt with locally by the Estonian Police and Border Guard or forwarded via the INHOPE report handling system ICCAM to the hotline of the respective country. 🔗Want to learn more about how the hotline handles reports of CSAM? 🛎️It's not too late to attend this year's INHOPE Summit! Our primary objective will be to tackle the issue of general child sexual abuse material (CSAM) awareness, emphasising that this matter doesn't exist in isolation but affects us all. Before we can create clear public guidance, we need to re-educate ourselves on current and future risks. People are often prevented from reporting by the following obstacles: 1. A lack of knowledge of what is illegal. 2. A lack of awareness of the ability to report and how to do so. 3. A lack of trust in the fact that their report will make a difference. 4. A lack of victim support. Let’s address these issues head-on. We traced public reports of child sexual abuse to 84 countries, 45 of which we have actively engaged in. The increase in hosting countries directly highlights the importance of growing the INHOPE network. By expanding the hotline model to high-risk locations, we can tackle criminal activity that is moving to less-legislated countries and escaping regulations. Through our partners, like TikTok, we are able to expand our network and help establish new hotlines. "We're proud to continue to partner with INHOPE as we play our part in the fight against those who aim to exploit and abuse children. This global challenge demands a collective response and whether it's exchanging best practices or leveraging INHOPE's network of hotlines as a resource for our community, we are stronger together in our work to protect young people online." - Cormac Keenan, Head of Trust and Safety, TikTok Learn more about our impact and the role partners play in helping grow the network of hotlines one country at a time - access your copy of the annual report👉 https://bit.ly/48SOtZC #Annualreport #research #publication #childprotection #digitalsafety #CSA #CSAM #annualreport2023 #datatrends #innovationtechnology #network #networkexpansion #reportingfigures #keyfigures

This week is dedicated to suicide prevention, a heavy topic that can affect anyone and has become a serious concern in society. Under the call to action "Start the Conversation," the goal is to change the narrative - replacing stigma with support and understanding. Silence serves no one. In particular, young people who experience distress due to the distribution of their intimate images are at an increased risk. What we can do is educate ourselves on the warning signs and extend a helping hand.
