L-carnitine administration reduces number of episodes in cyclic vomiting syndrome

Clin Pediatr (Phila). 2002 Apr;41(3):171-4. doi: 10.1177/000992280204100307.

Abstract

Patients with cyclic vomiting syndrome suffer from recurring episodes of severe nausea and vomiting. This paper presents 6 patients who responded to 1-carnitine administration. Average time between episodes was 1.7 months before carnitine administration and increased to 1.1 years after carnitine administration. Average dose of carnitine administered was 50 mg/kg. Oral carnitine may be useful to control the symptoms in patients with cyclic vomiting syndrome.
